Heated hand grips

I'm booked in for next week, Pidcock have been brilliant. Got a text from DRAINMAN and 5 minutes later a call from Pidcock wanting to book me in.

BMW have not been helpful at all, but this particular dealer has stuck their neck out and is trying to keep customers happy. Thumbs up from me.

He didn't say they were too hot on the lowest setting, they are as warm as the earlier ones on the highest setting which in fact is just warm. On the highest setting the later grips get hot, which when the ambient temp. is cold, together with the wind chill factor will make the hottest setting feel like they are actually doing what they should, which is keep your hands warm.

You are right. My mistake.

At Last, updated heated grips fitted, today was not the best day to try them as it is warm but they are FAR BETTER than the early model. Had to switch them off full heat as they too hot !!! better not complain or BMW might want them back as according to them they will not work on my bike !!!!

This should put an end to all the bullshit from BMW customer service. The later grips DO WORK on the earlier pre Aug 14 bikes without any problems with the ECU and they are a lot better than the earlier grips by far, they WORK as they should.

This is great news !

I have printed this off and I am going into my dealer an show it to them.

Titto is your bike a MY 2013?

Sorry about the confusion i may have inadvertently started. I was under the impression that MY 2013 bikes could not be fitted with the updated grips (don't ask where i got this from). If this turn out not to be the case then i will get back onto my dealer.

Again sorry for any confusion caused.

Dario

Okay i have had a quick look through the first few pages of this thread. It was on page 7 that Titto posted that he had been told by his dealer that MY 2013 bikes could not have the newer grips retro fitted. Apologies if this information changed further on in the thread.

If someone has had the newer grips fitted to a MY 2013 bike please let me know as i can then go and take it up with my dealer again.

Thanks

Dario

Just to be clear the uprated grips cannot be retro fitted to early MY 2013 bikes like mine?

That said i resigned myself to this fact ages ago. Still a pisser though.

Dario

I do not understand this statement? Of course they will fit.

Jim

Hi Dario
There is no difference between a 13 and up to August 14 grips, they are all the same. It is the dealer being given bullshit by BMW about why the grips would not work if you fitted the later style grip.

It has now been proved that they WILL work so all the excuses given by customer services are LIES, all they have managed to achieve is to upset a lot of customers who have spent a lot of money for a substandard product which they later upgraded when people complained but they gave NO help to the customers who had already purchased a new bike. All they did was dish out BULLSHIT / LIES as to why the later grips would not work.

I hope any body with a pre August 14 bike who is not happy with their grip proformance demands a upgrade as BMW have now been proved wrong and have no got a leg to stand on !!!

that could be a serious problem and why they don't want to fit them

In that case, I will swap mine with yours and then you can rest easy in the knowledge that yours will never be too hot

Deal ????

i had a 13 bike mate and know how shit they are, just saying if they're to hot and not designed to be that hot it could have implications for BMW not to fit em

But they are the same as fitted to your bike, so do you find them too hot ?

I tried a 15 and in this ambient temperature, on high they got hot. Hot enough to want me want to reduce down to half power, which is great because when it is really cold, I can use the hot setting to warm my hands and then reduce power as needs be.

As it is, as you must know, with mine on high I can just about get a bit of benefit and on half, well forget it.

Well guys, too hot or not, I want mine sorting as I've not used my bike in the colder months cos my fingers get too cold & it's to the point I've not had full control of the switch gear..
Mind you it's also helped delay any corrosion to the engine & drive train..
I'll be popping into Pidcocks (bike bought new from them by myself)
Oh ek, another tempting look at a GSA :nenau

Thick winter gloves for full heat. Turn lower for all year round gloves or summer gloves.

+1.... As the man said if anyone wants to switch there are lots of takers... When the grips work as they are supposed to people tend to wear lighter gloves.. Hence full heat warm your hands turn to lower... Not to hard to comprehend

I have just spoken to BMW CS. Their position as stated by the chap who took my call is not that the grips cannot be retro fitted (ie that they will not fit) but they have not been tested to work on earlier model years.

Accepting this I asked the question as to whether BMW will/are testing the grips on previous year models so as to establish that they will work to which the answer was yes.
I asked the chap if he would not mind sending me an email to this effect and he said he would. I shall post this up once received.
