Heated hand grips

Nutty hasn't added anything that hasn't already been said. Dealers are trying to negotiate with BMW, but the motherland isn't budging or assisting them or us.

Anyway, hadn't you had enough of this thread ?!! Went to work on the GS this morning, 5 degrees, same gloves - freezing hands. Went out on the works bike, another BMW 13 plate but an RT. Same gloves, 5 degrees. Burns your hands very quickly so have to use the low setting.

I want mine to work like my last GS did. Whats the issue with that?

Designs change, specifications change - based on customer feedback the manufacturer sometimes make changes, but to expect them to go back and retrofit those changes to older bikes is unrealistic, it isn't going to happen in the car world or that matter any other manufactured product.

Engineer, what kind of engineer are you ?

Please, please tell me you are not an aeronautical engineer because you always seem to deny that e problems exist when others are actually experiencing them and I don't just mean the heated grip issues.

I would worry if someone with your attitude was servicing an aeroplane that I was flying in.

He won't answer, but I suspect he is a Sanitation Engineer!

Jim

I agree, but for those that have an issue why not help them out a bit?

That's fine, better to go to your dealer and have a quiet word and see if they can help you out, maybe some sort of compromise can be reached? - I suggest that going public on an internet forum is not always the most effective way of getting results.

Latest update, bike went into Pidcocks on tue at the request of BMW customer services. ECU upgrade carried out, grips still the same.
Pidcocks phoned customer services to speak to Dan Henderson to find out what he wanted to do next, he was not in until Thursday, it was suggested by a customer service person that they did not know about any problems and that Pidcocoks should try to sell me some thicker gloves !!!!

After a chat with Pidcocks about the problems with the grips of which other customers have also complained about to themselves they have agreed to try a set of the later grips on my bike to see if they will work or not.

They had to be ordered from Germany as there is no stock in the UK, it will take 10 days for them to arrive !!

Hopefully we should soon have an answer if the grips work or not

I will update after the grips have been fitted.

Hi Drain Man

Thanks for the update. Fair play to Pidcocks! If the new grips work which they will! what happens next? I want the new grips but not paying £250. Of course everyone wants the upgrade for free but I personally am willing to contribute to the cost because it is an important and well used accessory. (I purchased my bike from Piddocks so they might be sympathetic) Think I will call them to discuss.

What could they cost bmw ? Wouldn't it be a great customer service feather in their cap if they said something like .. Although they "work as designed " we will off er 15 grips at say 50 £ ? Then every bodies happy... If you think grips are hot enough ( no names mentioned) leave them be ... If not I think most people would say 50 is a bargain......:clap

I am NOT paying for the grips, Pidcocks have ordered them off their own back to try and sort out the problem. They have not been authorised by BMW to do this as far as I am aware.

Once we find out if the new grips work everyone will have a good case against BMW for a upgrade to the new style grips which I hope will be FOC as the present grips are not fit for purpose.

We have already paid for the grips with the purchase of the bike, should not have to pay again for a sub standard part.

That's great news, and respect to piddy's for doing so, I really hope they work and are hotter because if it's proven to remedy the issue, the shite will then hit the fan for BMW UK.

Well done Drain Man, I hope that this provides us sufferers with a UK precedent.

I'm very intersted to see what happens. If it remedies the issue, I'd imagine BMW won't be too pleased with having to roll out a recall due to Pidcocks going behind their back, as they seemed to think there wasn't a problem.:augie Could cost both parties a lot of money. Expect your rep at Pidcocks to tell you not to post the results on here.

Pidcocks also want the problem solved, they have a load of unhappy customers who want a fix just like me and BMW have not been giving them any help either to solve the problem, all they have been given is the same bullshit as we have.

Pidcocks are a dealer, they make money from selling bikes, spares and service, if people are unhappy with what they get they will not go back to that dealer which means the dealer then has less customers which in the long run means less money !!!

Repeat customers make you money, you need to look after them which Pidcocks are trying to do by fitting the later grips, the problem may soon be solved if they work ok.

It will then be up to BMW to sort out all the crap which is going to follow from many unhappy customers.

Indeed - but this is not a recall issue is it? the grips work! - if an individual dealer wants to keep a customer happy then that is down to an agreement between them and their customer.
