Heavy clutch-cable lube

Tried this the other day, usual thing is lever off, lube thing on the end and squirt stuff down it
I took the lever off but there was not enough freeplay to unhook it out of the lever perch
What am I doing wrong?

Presuming the cabled clutch is similar to other bikes, take the pivot pin/bolt off that the secures the lever, that will make it easier.

Are there any slack adjusters on the line which are taking up any free movement

My understanding, and it is very limited is that the clutch cable was self lubricating; if you feel it needs lubricating then you probably need a new cable.
