Heidenau K60

Guilty

Okey, I stand corrected :P Removed the front tire the other day (well actually just broke the bead on the side with the leak). Found out I had not cleaned the bead area properly  Eg I found very small bits/part of old grass where things should seal along the bead :blast

Cleaned, added a small amount of lube. Pumped it back up. Now a handful of day later and no problem so far :thumb2

All I can say in my defense is, I have not done/experienced this/to this extent with other (more flexible) tires. That said, take your time and do the job properly by the book, and you will most likely stay out of trouble :rob

Mmmm must check mine ... :spl1f:

Found 2 spots where it was leaking at the bead. Broke the bead again, slathered it copiously with tyre lube and reinflated without a valve to get a faster seating of the bead.

Having laid the tyre flat and filled the groove between the tyre wall and rim with soapy water to check, I feel confident that the leaks are gone, both sides.

Lesson learnt is to only one tyre at a time, plenty of lube and drop the valve for a speedy fir. Or, take it to a pro...

Apart from this very minor niggle, a result of me fitting the tyres by hand, I am very impressed with these tyres and will definitely be replacing with the same when they (eventually) do wear out.

Folks, thanks for the replies. I have ordered 3 sets.... 2 other tossers have requested them at your recommendation. I think the best thing, is to have them fitted in Spain by a pro.... but I will be explaining the need to ensure everything is clean and plenty of lube used to seat them properly.
Looking forward to them and I reckon they will really look the part on the GSA.
Africa, here we come

Update please

Now the K60s have been around for a while can anyone who has used them report back on handling and mileage/wear please.

I'm trying to decide what to take on a long trip which will be 2 up, loaded and a mix of tarmac and gravel roads. I don't reallyt want to add to the weight by carrying any spare tyres so I'd been thinking Tourance or Battlewing on the grounds that they last longer than the TKCs and handle better on the tarmac. But if the experience says that the K60s should last the distance then they may be a better compromise for the gravel roads.

I normally get about 5k out of a pair of Tourance / Battlewing and that's v close to the mileage I'll be doing so I can't afford anything which will give me much less.

Thanks in advance guys :thumb2

Is that the newer Tourance EXP or the original? If it's the original I'd say you are very heavy on tyres. I usually get 8-10,000 miles to a set of original Tourances and replace them as a pair. I've decided to put Heidi's on mine and expect to see 5-6,000 miles from a set based on other people's experience and reports.

My Heidi's have done 6k miles of mixed road/off road (mostly road) and look to have another 2k in them at least. For comparison, I normally get about 5k out of Tourance EXP and 7k out of standard Tourance

I'd say they're netter than Tourance's on rock/gravel and not much different on the road, even in the wet, although they are a bit noisier.

LOVE my Heidie's :thumb2

removed the Karoo's and rode the GSA off the showroom floor with 2 Heidie's fitted.
Grip on tar very nice, but I really am impressed with their dirt performance. Did a quick 700km ride last week from Cape Town to Cape Agulhas & return on 85% dirt roads. Too lazy to deflate so rode with 2.2 & 2.7bar. Hard-baked dirt, river crossing and soft sand - no problems at all and the bike really just shrugs off the road!

Have order another set for the Africa trip.....

Mate of mine has Heidie's on his Dakar - now with just on 21000km and there still a smidgen left!

I rode to Morocoo and back on mine, total of 4000miles (including riding all the way back in three days, at motorway speeds once I got to Spain - about 1800 miles)

I'd say the tyres look half worn.

Handling has been faultless, wet, dry, gravel, rocks, sand.

Well, not sand obviously - anything handles like a shopping trolley on sand!

Or ice. They don't grip well on ice... :(

I'm very impressed, no buzzing once above 5mph, no weave at 85 fully loaded. And cheaper than TKC80's to boot.

Was that on the 150? Where did you buy them from?

Yup, the 150. There are several different compounds, and despite ringing and asking what the difference was, I only only got the info on the net repeated at me. In the end I chose the most expensive one, labelled "Mud + Snow", thinking it was likely to be the one that'd last the longest.

I won't actualy be fitting them 'til I set off to The Gambia in Jan so no reviews just yet ..................................

Fitted and ready to go on Saturday :thumb2

Looks like they'll see some snow use too :D

I'll report back on them in 4 weeks time............................

If they're anything like Car snow rated tyres then these will be made of rubber that remains flexible in low temps and that wears faster once the warmer weather returns.

I've had both and the difference between the K60's is chalk and cheese. Tourances are FAR better on the road - for a start they can actually corner, while the K60's are a high wall tyre. They lean and then "go" which can come as a surprise when it happens.

The K60's are much better off-road and as a gravelly green laner can't be beaten. Both have similar life (excellent) but the K60 is a noisy bugger and not as good at eating miles.

I would not hesitate at fitting some again.

Tread direcion

Does anyone know the correct direction of the front tyre. If you follow the direction on the tyre the tread pattern 'v shape' look backwards????

Just wondering if anyone has swapped it round.

Doesn't it have directional arrows? I could go and look but it's very cold in the garage:)
