Any comment on Heidenau K60 or K76 tyres for a 1200GS, compared to TKC80's.

Thanks.

Plenty of info if you run a search but, FWIW, my experience (K60) was better and longer lasting on road and not quite as good off road (but good enough).

k60 has a far stronger sidewall than the tck80, most people i know with a tck80 have bent the front rim.

i looked at 1 last week and can easily flex the sidewall with 1 finger.

Well, I had a set of the new K60 scouts fitted the other day, and so far, they feel pretty good. I've only scrubbed them in on the road thus far, but the feedback through the bike has me smiling.

There's a 'rumble' up to/down from 20mph through the knobbly element, but the rear has a solid central belt which is supposed to improve on road performance vs the old scouts....

My forthcoming trip to Spain/Morocco will certainly be a decent proving ground to see how they perform.

Thanks for that link, that was much more informative than the ones I just checked out. I have come across the old Pneumont trade name that they used prior to '93. Think I've owned something in the past with those fitted.
They look a pretty good alternative to the usual MichBridgPirreCont's choice that we all tend to fit. Could be very tempted to give them a go for the next set. :beerjug:

This is the first time I've run them, but the early signs are encouraging. The real test will be on my forthcoming trip...on/off road, wear rate etc.....I'll have fun testing them....:D:D:D:D

Moroc

Have a good time and try to fit in a camel ride brilliant! we rode out in the desert just like Lawrence!, tried to make it charge or at least bite my mates
mount in front up thre bum but no!! . Got carried away kept shouting "no prisoners"!!! but they are 'orible things to ride even worse than 1150's (oops!
forgot we are not all 1200 owners!) probably weigh the same an all! (camels that is!).
But do have a good time.

have the "heidi tyres" fitted for 1500 miles now on a gs and they live up to my expectations. On the road they give a planted feeling and in the rain and in cold weather they have plenty grip ( they are M&S rated ). The front feels a bit soft above 80 but it might be my shocks going towards the end.
Off-road the rear has it's limits because i guess of the continuous strip of rubber in the middle that makes it more a road tyre than a real knobby and the front has only slipped a few times because of me making a the balls of it. IMO if you don't ride them extremely hard the are a brilliant all-round product
and it looks like the last longer than the tourances i had before but can't tell just yet

Going to run the K60's on the Alaska trips as they are a great on/off road tyre and should do the 8000 miles asked of them:thumb TKC's won't last the pace.

Really :nenau

I must be on my 10th front TKC and although I do have lots of little nicks, certainly no bends......I can only remember one dinged rim on a GS in all of the Morocco trips, and he was an incompetant twit.

Are the people you know riding up kerbs with the pressure too low?

TKCs do have softer walls, you're right (and its what makes them so easy to fit yourself) but I rather suspect 'most of the people with a tkc have bent the front rim' is one hell of an exaggeration :comfort

An MZ perhaps...? Pneumants were OEM fit on those and they were truly horrible at the time. Anyone with any sense binned them as soon as they bought a new MZ.

now now, before trying to quote me at least get it right.... read it properly and not what you want to read before going off on one again.

if offroad with lower pressures the rim can be bent, i know at least 10 people that have run the tck and had some form of bent rim.

if running at full pressure it may not be a problem but to be able to collapse a sidewall between thumb and forefinger means its pretty weak.

MT21 is far stronger and a better offroad tyre.

K 60

Hi
Had K60 fitted for 2000k now on my Gsa, brilliant tyres very planted in all conditions, got a bit squirmy doing silly speeds fully loaded but backed of a tad and all was well.def good buy will fit another set when these wear out but not for a long time by the look of them, lasting very well :thumb

I did read it, and I understood it perfectly well thanks.

Your experience obviously varies almost completely from mine.

Yes an MT21 is stronger, and yes, for most off-road applications, it's better, but sidewall flex on a TKC just is not a problem IME.

Thanks.

cant comment on a 1200 as I dont have one, I can do a comparison on the 1100, as said elsewhere the TKC were better on Muddy bit (green lane rather than off road) but I did notice they were noisy, and very viby at speed. The K60 have lasted much better, mine have about 4000 miles on and still going strong and I am hard on tyres, grip in the wet on the K60 is more confidence inspiring than on the TKC, I don't know if they ARE better but they feel it. There is still some noise and there is occasionally a bit of a vibe but its not intrusive. FWIW I think they are a good compromise between a proper offroad tyre and an on road tyre with a chunky tread.
I will use them again, oh and they were quite well priced got mine from http://www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk

Love them. My first rear lasted 10000 miles,I am still on my first front tyre which is sitting now on 17500 miles :D
Love them on the road and they where good enough to drag me along the Strata Florida
Second rear sits now on 3500 miles and you hardly notice the wear

Well, they have been superb thus far, both on and off road...to pay testimony, I got a puncture just outside Marrakech last week...I rode with a puncture for circa 7 miles and then only noticed a slight weave to the feel...just goes to show how strong they are; the lads fixed it by the road side, got the puncture repaired and it's been like new.

I would have no hesitation in getting another set of these...:thumb2

Yep - I have the same feeling over them......... managed to get around 15,000km on a set and my mate has just replaced his at 15,700km's - he could have squeezed 16k.... but was doing a long trip.
The trick for us was to run them hard.... not to deflate and merely learn to ride them on dirt & sand. Their hard sidewalls don't like deflating but it's not a biggie once you're used to them.

great treads! :thumb
