Ok. I admit it. I'm hamfisted. On the postive side, the bike has lovely valve clearances

I've two stripped bolts on the left rocker cover. They havn't been right since I came off on the side of a mountain a while back and have now given up the ghost. I also have a big leak!

Any suggestions where I could get a kit? Anyone in Dublin have one I could borrow for a night? Or even better, anyone fancy fitting them for me?

Alternatively, if anyone has a linky for purchase, that would also be brilliant. Times like this I'm glad I've two bikes

Try Bohsfc, I think he has some experience of fitting helicoils to an 1150..

I met him at the UPS collection office last year actually.

nope 12 months old in to change plugs and filter (i didnt spanner bikes then)

came home and fine went on a trip to the lakes and going along and all of a sudden - doff doff doff and runs on 3 - screw back in and 30 miles later doff doff doff

straight back to hunda

fix this or trading standards get involved

3 weeks later fixed and sold (for a gs)

i use david silver and mech my own bikes now.........

Hiya John,

This is actually a question I can't answer. i need to measure the bolt as it's non standard. It's either an M5 or M6 x 1.0

Would anyone be able to confirm this?

If you have two inserts with all the fitting bits it would be great.

Im pretty sure they are m6. I had to do a couple on my 1100 last year. I had to shorten the rocker cover bolts coz my helicoils were a bit short I can do them for you if you can get the bike to me in Carrickmacross? I'll have to just double check the kit is still intact as i have a very inquisitive 11yr old who likes to try his hand at anything he see's interesting.

Might be able to get my hands on a kit here in work. Defo have the M6 helicoil inserts _ just need to get the kit, so I'll get back in touch later when I return from begging the mechanical services for tools

a steady hand is all need, some even put the drill bit into a tap driver and ream them by hand instead of drilling them.

the threads all gone you should not have much metal to remove so by hand be safest route if not comfortable witht he drill.

check the tap in the kit 1st, might be surprised and find it could tap straight away wothout drilling
