Hi all.

I've just sold my K1300GT and think I am ready for a GS! I feel if you ride a bike it is inevitable you end up on one eventually!

I'm looking at a 1250 TE and ideally I'd love one a year or so old, but may well be swayed by my dealer to go new!

I'm having a test ride on Thursday (I was dismayed my dealer grumbled that I wanted it for more than an hour!) but have briefly ridden a R1200GS many moons back. I loved the riding position and comfort then, but hated the tractor engine. I'm really hoping all I've heard about the latest engines being smoother, more powerful torquey etc rings true.

Before I begin my dance with the dealer anyone have any tips or suggestions to squeeze a good deal? The dealer is telling me bikes are in short supply (Covid) and flexibility on price is unlikely. I'm a cash buyer so I'm expecting some leeway!

Anyway, loving the forum (still exploring it)

Welcome and hope your test ride will go well , i never looked back again , Still had other bikes as well but the GS is and always ( for me) will be the best all rounder and all day smile maker and most other bike were sold on as they scratched the itch i had to own one. Just remember to not get upset by folks on here , most mean well and are professional wind up merchants but nice chaps all the same.

You won’t be disappointed, they have refined the tractor motor just a bit.

In regards to a deal just have a ring round, should help.

Thanks. Yes, once I am happy the engine has improved I'm ready to rock and need a similarly minded dealer.

Doug, put the cash away and present as a PCP buyer to get the best deal. Cash buyers have no value beyond a sales figure for the bike. PCP buyers tick all kinds of boxes for self-interest to the salesperson and dealer. You can always cancel the PCP shortly afterwards. They still get their cut. I only found this out after buying two GSs with cash.

BTW, I am also a complete tosser

Miles kingsport in Hull has a cracking 1250 GS TE in Fully loaded at a good price. I know its a fair one its my old one

If the dealer is chasing sales targets the end of the month or end of the quarter might get you a better deal.

Yes the 1250 is more powerful than the 1200 but it is not like getting off a John Deere and slipping into a Ferrari. If you really want performance then get a sports bike. Good luck anyway

Having come from a Fireblade to 2 x S1000 XR's to a GS, I love it, don't have any regrets
It hustles along like a very fast, very refined tractor and handles far better than it should....came with the Bridgestone A41's, impressed so far
Last time I rode a GS other than a test ride last year was in 2010 for a month through work, it was fun but lumpy, had a 2009 GSX-R 1000 then....1250 is a pretty damn good bike
Got a pre-reg in May, 6 miles on clock, large chunk of money off and decent PX given and that was on the dealer having sold over 60 bikes that month
I was just regularly checking the national used stock on BMW Motarrad UK

Hi Doug, Ricky (Sales Manager) at Vines Guildford is a proper chap and I feel you may get a good deal if you get to talk to him, not too far from you and some decent roads for test ride ,
I love mine after 9 years with a ZZR 1400 , I now feel I can ride all day and still feel human

Thanks, I may well do. My dealer has not impressed me so far - very pushy and arrogant (but unfortunately nearby!).

What !!!!!!!!!! that is taking the piss , charging FFS , are they not trying to sell bikes .
