Hello all . . . I think I'm ready to succumb . .

Buy 500 euro bike to have fun now, lockdown covid coming, and get 1250 in winter big save money.

I had my demo bike for two day for freeeeeee. I'd tell them to fuck right off. What will they be like when they've got your brass ?

Yes the 1250 is more powerful than the 1200 but it is not like getting off a John Deere and slipping into a Ferrari. If you really want performance then get a sports bike. Good luck anyway

According to September issue of Ride, sports bikes have had their day, and the sales figures prove it, with Adventure bikes being the most desirable bikes being sold in the current market, and I would tend to agree.

They have an article.... ‘6 reasons why to buy an Adventure bike’.

Makes good sense!

Nice bike and welcome.

Make sure you buy a decent physical security lock (or two) and use it all the time. Never leave your bike sat around without security or it'll go missing.

Ground anchor it at home. :thumb2

I decided to take the plunge and buy a tractor after years and 60,000 plus miles on KTM 1190/1290/Multistrada. After 2,000 miles I still think the 1250 is a heavy tractor but it’s growing on me a bit. It’s not the first bike I choose unless I’m going for a big run on big roads. Took
a 790 Adventure for a single day 500 mile run round Scotland last week and didn’t regret not taking the 1250.

Lovely torquey engine on the 1250 but the gear change and shaft drive is agricultural so make sure you get a decent test ride. If Covid hadn’t scuppered the plans for a month long ride round the Balkans I would have used it for that. It’s not a bad bike but not as good a bike as all the hype suggests imho. It’s competent but not exciting. As we’re on UKGSer most will disagree with me.

If you’re coming from a K1300 it shouldn’t feel too heavy

If I'd have test riden my R1200 GSA, I would not have bought it. Piece of rattling crap.

But since I bought it over the phone, I've serviced it myself, ran it in, done valve and cam alignment. It's a really nice bike.

Makes me wonder if BMW want their bike continually back at the dealers.

Yes, that's what is in my mind, and very much what I want the test ride to clarify.

DON"T DO IT

stickers peel off
engines rattle
spokes come loose
drive shaft seizes
brake callipers leak
keyless tank opening jams
first wash corrodes everything
you can only sync 295 devices to the TFT at the same time

I read it on here.

Doug if you liked the R1200GS you will love the 1250...Mechanically so much smoother and torquey like you K1300.Just not as much top-end...;) Coming from the K1300GT you must be a bigger guy so before buying try also the ADV version of the GS.You can't go wrong either way and 2021 the EU-5 models are coming which might be weaker than the current ones.Only god knows...:D

Not necessarily!!
Some prefer the 1200 and have sold the 1250 and gone ‘back’ to the 1200.

Less is more rearing it’s ugly head again !! :-)

Yes, I'm 6'2". I understood the ADV version has the same geometry - just bigger tank, engine bars etc. Am I missing advantages to the ADV (other than range and hours spent cleaning those spoked wheels)?

Doug

Doug the ADV has 20 mm more spring travel and slightly less trail so it is a little quicker steering than a regular GS...The same suspension is available on the regular GS called the "sports-suspension" option which also has slightly stiffer springs but only with the HP paint...
Advantages of the ADV you ask ?
10 liter bigger tank, more wind protection and sturdier top loading aluminum bags.
As for wheels cast wheels run more true and are 2 lbs lighter , wire wheels will be more sturdy when you hit a pothole...
Advantages of the regular GS...slightly less weight...roughly 40 lbs...You have to decide what is more important to you !

Ah, thanks. I did not know about the suspension differences.

Doug

Doug as tall as you are I either would go ADV or regular GS with sports suspension...Either way stiffer springs are always good loading the bike up as also more room before pegs drag as also 5mm less trail means quicker steering when the road gets twisty...It pretty much comes down to this...100 miles more range or a slightly lighter bike but more fuel stops...you decide...I had both ADV and GS and both a great for different reasons...If I had to buy one today I probably would have to flip a coin...;) Only You can decide what is more important to you ! If you like the aluminum bags better I would go ADV because bag and top case mounts come stock with the bike while it costs you a grand to put them on the regular GS...Good luck !

Most dealers have stockpiled as of 2021 the GS will be euro 5 as far as I know they cannot take a forward order hence the stockpiling but when they have gone that’s it till next year also 40th GS anniversary

Quicker steering on a GSA? Other way round. ;)

Surely the most important difference between the gsa and the gs is that only the mothership could love the looks of the gsa?
