Hi Pedro and welcome!

A lot depends on how the bike was stored. Cool and dry OK out in the hot sun, not good.

Personally I would treet it like new bike. Change all the fluids. Engine, Gearbox, Final drive, clutch and brake. Run the bike for about 1000 km or so and change at least the Engine, gearbox and final drive oils again. With the bike stood so long all the shit carbon and contaminants in the oil would have settled at the bottom of the casing. Fresh oil and a good churn might put a lot of this crud back in suspension so when you change the oil at 1000km most of the crap should go with the oil.

You may suffer hardened seals on things like brake and clutch, but maybe not, it's not a big deal to get overhaul kits to replace seals.

Your tyres might be cracked and perished and need replacing. If the bike has been stood with weight on wheel without moving the wheels may have flat spot.

Don't plan any long trips until you've run it a while to sort out any potential problems. The bike is simple to work on with basic mechanical skills and there is plenty of information and help/ advice on this forum. There is nothing that cannot be fixed.

Ride it and enjoy it.:thumb2

Good advice, I'd only add checking the brake calipers carefully - look for any corrosion that might have got onto the pins and I'd want to change the brake fluid too after 6 years in storage.
That said, 40,00km is nothing - the engine is hardly run in yet so you have a long long way to go before you should worry about anything wearing out.
Happy GS'ing cobber ! :beerjug:

About fuel is economic ????
Regards pedro

That depends on your right hand and how far /fast you twist the accelerator.

If you aren't too much of a speed freak you should see 10-12 miles per litre, 16 to 19 Kms/ltr., I can't remember if you are on miles or Kms. down under.

Hi
Am on km!!
Is ok 16 to 19 km for 1 litre!!
I was scary about this !!
Thanks for help
Regards pedro

Hi!!
Would like read few links about mechanic things like oil change, gear o oil, valves etc to have an idea and learn about bike!!
Thanks pedro

Hi pedro

For information that basic you need a manual.

Try this link to download a version in English.

http://www.carlsalter.com/download.asp?p=341

Better still the manual is available in Portuguese. If you go to your nearest BMW dealer he should be able to get you a CD with the manual for your bike in pdf format in most European languages including Portuguese.

The one significant weak point on the 1150GS is the final drive, the output bearings can fail. Some bike don't ever have a problem, others have problems at quite low mileages. It isn't difficult to fix but read the section about checking your final drive for play in the bearings.

It may be worth seeing if there is an experienced owner near to where you are collecting the bike who can do the checks for you to put your mind at rest.

My first bearing failed at 40,000 kms and I replaced it myself, with no special tools apart from a bearing puller, along with the big seal and that lasted until almost 98,000 kms when it failed again. Before a big trip last year at almost 112,000 kms I had the entire final drive re-built, it cost about Aus$400. It has now done over 144,000 kms and is fine:) I'm sure that there will be a specialist in Oz who knows what they are doing and can do the job properly if/when the time comes

Great bikes for long distances and as tough as nails.

Final drive

Hi Pedro welcome to the site don't worry about the final drive like anything else it can wear but it certainly is not a weak point on 1150's. 1200's are the boys to worry about, if your 150 has a prob not difficult to fit new bearing anyway lots of information on here look under the "font of wisdom" or just do a search.

Hi Pedro

When you get the bike make sure he gives you the little A6 book which has the service history stamps in it.

It's called Maintenance Instructions R1150GS

Inside you will find lots of information on wheel removal. Suspension settings, controls, tyre pressures, petrol, oils and lubricants.

Basic stuff which should help you with every day running.

It's a must have book as far as I'm concerned, especially for first time user.

Hi!!
Bike have all the books!!!
Just stress because bike was storege six years !
Dry place and cool!!
Bike dont have rust!!
For what no was working well!!
Saturday is big day!!
Just hoppe bike is free problems!!
Thanks for help and advices!
Regards pedro

Service is 5000km our 10000km???
And engine oil is 4 litres 20w50 mineral????
Gear box final drive!!????
Thanks for help!!
Kind regards pedro

The UK service schedule is around 9,000kms, basically oil & filter and 18,000kms for a big service. details will be in the maintenance instruction booklet for the bike which also specifies the correct oils. Mineral or semi synthetic 20/50 in the engine where you live and Hypoid 90 API GL5 in the gearbox and final drive.

For all that it costs change the final drive oil every time you change the engine oil. It will give you an early warning of any pending problems.

What should do to post photos??

They all make a bit of valve noise, don't worry.

Clearances are very easy to do, I'm sure that there are "how to do it" guides in the technical section.
