hi guys
wether is bad in melbourne at moment so just ride a bit somethimes!
tomorow gone put few photos.
i was reading few posts about oils final drive etc!!!
changing oils is easy so this i can do at home!!!!
oils are changing in 5000 km our 10000km???????
valves clearence are to much for me at moment i need read more about this!!!
have to change filter from deposite this very important (urgent) our is ok!!!!
my question is:
if i change all fluids means i service bike our service means also other things!!!
my idea is take bike to dealer to do 40000km service and then go again 60000km!!!
in time betwen i do oils change!!!!
what you guys think about this???
here in melbourne service bike on dealer is expensive!!!

Si Pedro, I do speak Spanish.
I am riding again after a 20 year break, my last bike was a 1987 Suzuki GSX R1100, now I am really enjoying the dual purpose ability of the GS, and the upright position.
I don't ride as often as I would like, as I am busy running a small business, renovating a house and with young kids.
I bought my 2000 R1150GS with 51K about 6 months ago, so far so good!

What ever you like, it is your bike, oil service is every 6000 miles (10000km), but there is nothing to stop you changing oils every 5000km, just expensive.

have to change filter from deposite this very important (urgent) our is ok!!!!

There are only three filters. Oil ,fuel and air.

Oil filter is changed with engine oil.

Fuel filter change depends on fuel. As the bike has been stored for so long. It might be a good idea to change it. Simple job to do, just be careful with the nuts holding the pump plate on, not to tight or the stud will shear off.

Air filter, do visual and blow out with compressed air, or replace

Do whatever you feel comfortable with. The bike is easy to service. Get yourself the service manual, available on CDRom, from BMW (comes in Spanish and Portuguese.

All BMW dealers worldwide are expensive. Try and find a small independent who also specialise in BMW. Ask other BMW riders.

This one is my first bmw!!!
Am just worry to much!!
I have ride more and stress less!!
Bike is great and overhaul is very good condition!!!!

Hi Pedro,

A very nice looking GSA. I have one just like that, you will be amazed on how good these bikes are. I bought one with 9,060 kms on the clock in January, it has now 21,600 on.

I have to agree the best looking GS ever built. If you ever come up to Sydney, give me a shout. I'll be happy to carve up some miles and shout a coffee or other beverage of choice.

Today ride with rain and was very good!!
Is heavy bike but on road is great!!!!
Am very new with BMW bikes am still learning!!

What notice is burning same oil!!
The bike was storage 6 years mayby is because this to!!
Now am riding and engine have to make few adjustments.
This is my idea.
Am right our wrong!
Soon gone put bike mechanic to do 40000km service and check everything!!

Another thing what is best gps and mount to put on bike??

Hi Pedro,

Mine still burns a lot of oil, but they can burn oil until about 40,000 kms. My old R1150R burnt oil until a tad over 45,000 kms. We did a trip down the Great Ocean Road and after that 3,500 kms trip the oil usage was minimal.

I cannot comment on the storage and using oil. My bike did about 1,000 kms each year, but it was also serviced every year. I think that may make a difference. It still looks like it was driven of the showroom.

I use RAM mounts for my GPS and GoPro. I have a mount on the brake and clutch reservoirs respectively as well as a mount on one of the front handlebar screws. I use a Garmin 60CSx.

It will be good to meet up, it sounds like your bike can do with a good trip. I also know of a VERY good BM workshop here.

I use Johnny Appleseed for all my GPS and RAM needs. The bloke in North Sydney is fantastic to deal with. They have a branch in Melbourne:

I'v only been in Aus for 6 years myself. I work shifts so do most of my riding alone. I bought the new HEMA Motorcycle Atlas of Australia and use that quite a lot when I look for rides. It only covers tarred roads though. For any off-road stuff I use the Ozz ADV Forum for additional information:

I don't change any of the fluids on my bike, I suggest you invest in a good manual. I have the Haynes manual that covers all R1100, R1150 and R850 models. The clutch is a dry clutch, unless you referring to the hydraulic fluid in the clutch reservoir.

I cannot comment on any of those units. Have a look at the GPS subforum, there will be some answers to your questions. It helps if you have an idea what you will use the GPS for. My criteria was to have a unit that does not use chargeable batteries and I wanted to be able to use it on my mountain bike too. It was also at a very good price
