Hello again, back from my holiday in Normandy I managed to cover just over 1000 miles on my tiger 800, So that was a fitting farewell to the old bike. Due to paperwork delays I have only had my new to me GS Te a few days, I have done a few hundred miles and now the newbie questions start;
1 from about 30mph there is a loud howling noise coming up from the front, is that tyre noise?

2 I feel I need to lower the pegs any advice on best ones not cost but quality etc

3 Are the cylinder head covers good enough for a minor spill ie walking pace? I do not intend to go off road (not intentionally anyway) if the consensus is bars which ones to avoid? or is it all just personal preference?

4 the previous owner had removed the rear mudguard thingy it was given to me on collection of bike
a, why remove it? b, I have no preference to it being on or off, what is the thoughts on this?

5 the wheel device on the left handle bar for the sat nav is stiff to turn, can it be treated to a bit of wd40 to loosen it?

finally I am enjoying the bike I have taken to the gear shift assist quite well and the keyless ride is good I think I will carry a spare battery for the key but I wont bother carrying the spare as well.
Thanking you all in advance for your* witty, clever, rude and useless response's *delete as necc
Regards Nigel

Question 1 if there anakees yes it's the tyres.
Question 2 I can't help with
Question 3 I've only ever had bars and they work well as two of my mates have dropped there bikes at low speed and it does the job of protecting the heads.
Question 4 some bods don't like the rear guard I don't think it makes any difference at all to protecting you or the bike from shit getting over it.
Question 5 can't help with.

1. How good are your earplugs?
2. Are you overly tall?
3. Maybe, maybe not. You pays yer money and takes yer choice.
4. People, including me, remove it because it's only there to satisfy TÜV rear impact bumper height regulations and all it does is to direct a jet of cold, dirty water at the back of your leg. Leave it off.
5. You'd probably be better using a silicon spray lube. However, no guarantee is given or implied.

Hi Nigel

As I only picked up my GSA this evening I can't help with much...other than you don't need to worry about a battery for the key/fob as it doesn't have one. The system is powered from the bike (or so I was told by a BMW technician during my handover earlier today).

BMW do adjustable lowered pegs, when I enquired they were about £165 for the set. Look smart too.

1. That'll be the Anakees
2. BMW do the Gilles lowered pegs, which are very nice
3. MachineArt Moto X-heads are much nicer than bars, and will protect the bike
4. Personal preference, but I have no issues leaving it on
5. Give it a go, and let us know how you get on. Actually, don't. Mention it to the dealer, as you may do more damage by spraying WD in there.

1. The Anakees are good tyres- just wear good ear plugs and you wont notice the difference.
2. Ride the thing and you`ll get used to it- ever ridden a sports bike- this thing is an armchair in comparison
3. You WILL drop the bike- loads of bars available- when you sell the bike take them off and sell them at very little loss.
4. Just leave it on- I dont give it a thought.
5. Im sure a bit of WD wont do any damage- if unsure take it to the dealers- the switches an these bikes are not top quality and the dealers will have a stack of them in stock.

Enjoy the bike

Hi Nigel,

you finally gave in then and bought the big GS.

look forward to seeing it soon.

Steve

Anakee square off really easily in my experience, PR4 do not. PR4 every time for me now, though to be fair wear rates are similar to anakee with 5 or 6 k to a rear.

Thank you to you all, yes the tyres are anakees so that must be the noise, I do wear ear plugs I just noticed the noise it dosnt bother me. my tiger had pr4s on it and they are awesome. yes I am tall 6ft 4 with long legs 34 inside seam! will look at the bmw footpegs at the weekend and ask bahnstormers about the sat nav wheel and finally bars I think. ahh well just when the credit card thought it was all over

many thanks Nigel

2 brought some today and they are good
5 used some GT85 that has worked well as it contains Teflon! also I found that instead of turning it with my thumb I am using my index finger!! so possibly pilot error!

Have you fitted PR4 Trail or PR4 Road with 3 compounds?
