Helmet advice please

I'm looking at replacing my old HTC with an HTC RPHA Max, but I've no experience with flip-up type helmets.

The HTC helmets suit my head shape and I've been happy with my last few but has anyone got any experience with flip-up type helmets? Are they noisier than one-piece? Anything to be weary of?

I have a shark evoline which are really good as they can be used as a flip up or openface

i also have a bmw system 6 which is really quiet

never really worn a full face as always had flip ups either bmw or schuberth as thats all that i feel comfy in until i tried the shark evoline 2 the new shark evoline is very light

I cant comment on the HTC one specifically but I have always found flip fronts to be noisier than full face. That said I have always found HTC helmets in general to be noisy so maybe I am just used to Shuberth full face lids.

I have a Schuberth C3 which is very quiet, but the new CR Pro is supposed to be even quieter. I think they claim it's the quietest helmet on the market, flip or full face.
I also had the Schoei Neotec for a while, but found it noisier than the Schuberth, but still probably quieter than most. They are both high quality helmets......and expensive !!

shoei fits perfect for me,tried on the new schubert & to my surprise it felt like someone had me in a neck lock, my jaw had no freedom of movement & i couldn't get on with it.I had high hopes as it looks good and had rave reviews.I'll stick to full face i think.i did like the flip up sun visor though and alround vision was great and its really light.

I wear a shoei multitec with interphone f3, wife has the same, I also have moulded ear pulgs so cant comment on noise, but its comfy and well made when solo its a shoei hornet, never heard of HTC helmets before I thought they made phones

I can also recommend the Shark Evoline 3, Much improved from the previous versions and a very good lid for the money, at about £300

That pumped up yank is so annoying.

Shuberth and BMW flip helmets (made by Shuberth) are quiet but in general flip fronts are heavy and noisy compared to fixed full face helmets.

I recently replaced my System 5 flip front with a System 6 which is an improvement. Currently reduced to £295 at dealers.

You'd be surprised to find that none of the big name helmets have a 5 star safety rating.

As always, before deciding which helmet to buy try it on.

That's an old and pretty invalid argument. If you care to search the "big names" for their response as to why they don't get 5 stars you will see why.

Google and I cannot find these responses, can you help?

Fact is: The BMW System 6 and the Schubert C2 scores higher than the C3 in the same test. My old C2 is bigger and heavier than my C3, I guess they have made some compromises.

I went for the RPHA 10 in the end, fitted me like a glove, the RPHA Max was OK but in my own mind I couldn't see how a flip-up could be as safe as a one-piece.

The weight of the RPHA 10 surprised me as well, in contrast the Max was like wearing a brick on your head.

I use a C2 or System 5. Both fairly quiet. I can't wear it with my winter jacket but the Leatt neck brace dramatically reduces wind noise.

My Shoei Multitec is not the most expensive lid i've ever bought but it is probably the best by far i love it. Didn't want one with a built in flip down sun visor as the ones i tried weren't much darker than the stanndard clear one. With the shoei i bought the Black race visor much better for summer use. The multitec comes with the neck scarff which does it's job well in the winter as does the chin guard thingy. I also find it really quiet to wear

I like flip ups. Yes they are noisier but then I wear proper ear plugs anyway. The Schuberth I had was brilliant and saved my life in a SMIDSY . The Nolan I have now was half the price but is half the helmet. A mistake - it will be Schuberth again next time.
