Helmet foging

Pinlock. I'm wondering why your S1 didn't come with a Pinlock as standard, IME UK and DE sourced helmets have the Pinlock visor and insert.

The original S1 for the UK didn't come with a Pinlock as standard. The OP's helmet is an S1 Pro which is a later version.

I wear specs when riding too and suffered with my Caberg for months until I realised what 'Pinlock' actually meant. :blast Either foging (sic :D) up of specs and visor in seconds or riding with visor cracked open and a waterfall running down the inside. Since fitting the Pinlock insert I can ride quite happily in cold, wet and sandstorm and still see where I'm going.

Like Andres, never had an issue with condensation between Pinlock insert and visor. I had tried a couple of 'anti-fog' preparations previously and, frankly, found them a complete waste of money.

What Caberg have you got and how did you fit Pinlock?
I need to fit one to mine as morning rides is a quess work most of the time :D.

It's a Sintesi II - the visor comes with Pinlock fixing points as standard and you just push the thing on - dead simple. The only downside is that due to the shaping of the Caberg insert you do get a 'ridgeline' in the top of your vision when the visor is fully down but you soon get used to that.

If you need the insert - call Nick Noble 0800 389 6021 www.nicholasnoble.co.uk - he stocks the things and will probably give you a UKGSer discount if you ask nicely!

pin lock

Pinlock is absolutely useless; no, worse than useless. Once you get condensation between the layers then you'll have to stop, remove the pinlock clean both sides and either replace it or (the sensible option) throw it away.

I'd suggest trying to fit it correctly first. Water only gets between the visor and the pinlock if it us incorrectly fitted and does not seal on to the visor.

I've used a pinlock years and they make a big difference, well worth the money.

It seems to be fitted correctly and the dealer agreed:nenau

i don't like pinlocks. even when new they degrade the transparency of the visor, then they get worse, fretting until they and the visor are scrap. when they work, in the rain, they are ok, but not as good as a really good anti mist visor IMO.

also had moisture trapped between the pinlock and visor. all very well saying it's 'cos they are not fitted correctly, but the visor flexes in the airstream, so it's never going to be perfect.

Thanks for that. Will definitely have a look.

I had the pinlock for my System IV and V. I'd never had the need until I started wearing specs because if the visor fogged I'd just open it but with specs that's a disaster. I now have a System VI which comes with a pinlock as standard.

I've never had a problem with any of them misting-up between the two layers. What I do find is that the optical quality is compromised by the extra bit of plastic. It's not a problem in daylight but I find that in poor light or full darkness it's enough to make me ride with my visor up.

Following the various posts in this thread, I removed my visor, carefully cleaned both the visor and the pinlock. Put the pinlock back and ensured there were no gaps, as far as I could see.

Then went for a test ride on a cool and misty morning

Slight misting within about 30 secs, cleared after 5 mins followed by stubborn misting between the layers that didn't clear even with the visor up.

So, if anyone wants a pinlock for a Shoei Mutlitec, there's one lying at the side of the D683 between Clerval and Beaumes les Dames.

It must be you, my Pinlock, albeit in a Schuberth R1 (fitted by me) works perfectly

I have had my pinlock fog up at times and not at others the only difference being the way I have fitted it. On that basis I'm of the view that the pinlock works as long as its fitted correctly. I don't see there's any more liklihood of a dealer getting it right than anyone else.

Got Tour X3 fitted with Pinlock from new, ace solution which normally works well, although did get some damp in when riding late one night in the rain and had to have the tinted lens up to see in the dark, water forced its way between the seal and started to fog, easily dried back at home and refitted. I use the clear through the winter and the tinted version through the summer.

Try Bob Heath Anti fog a dumpy short can spray on foam wipe off it does help a lot i also wear specs. Spray on theinside of the visor & your glasses wipe off with a tissue ...done .
