Thought I’d share this with you.

I bought an "action video camera" as my last trip I only managed to get around three minutes of footage on my bike. As I was riding through some spectacular scenery I knew I was missing out. My mate managed to strap a video camera to the side of his bike, but it was not up to it.
When the camera arrived, I unpacked it and looked at the many mounting options. I wanted it to be mounted on the top of the helmet. And most of them were set up to be mounted on one side, with either a Velcro or rubber strap. I used the two pieces of Velcro supplied to temporally fix the camera on the top, this was useful and necessary as it is important to gain correct line of sight, I several times walked around with my helmet on. The first couple of times I just filmed the floor, the line of sight doesn’t look right, as the helmet seems to point forward and the camera point up, but it is right.
I looked at the helmet (Tour X) and right where the mount needs to go is the air vent. I carefully lifted the vent and it came away, (glued down) under this was a perfect sized hole. I cut the Handle bar mount (supplied) and screwed it through the helmet, the screw sits inside the helmet perfectly, After all the helmets inside it became invisible. A perfect mount for the camera,
Now I can capture as much of my trips as I want. Happy Days !!

Can you just clarify... you screwed a bolt through the vent hole... so the screw is directly above your head?.. If so, that might sting a tad in a proper accident. However... at least you would have something to put on youtube! :thumb2

My colleage brought a similar camera the other day and attached it to the lip of the peak with a simple clamp. That way its at least mounted on something that would snap off more easily in an accident.

I actually quite like the stickers on the helmet though. :hide

It does sound a bit dodgy. Me thinks that strong velcro or the really sticky red 3M product would have been better. However there is also the concen that the camera might strike the ground and cause your head to get pulled back either way its fixed on I suppose.

I have a Hero 3 ( 2 of them in fact ) but i've not got around to using the helmet mount yet.

The screw is just long enough, the end that is inside the helmet is a plastic twist up and flat, it is also deep inside the polystyrene. You would have to see it to understand. I have no worries at all of my head going anywhere near the screw. It is at least 1 inch below the surface of the inside.
The top vent I removed, the screw is a perfect fit through the factory drilled hole.
Also, 100% if I do hit anything, the camera will break away from the Helmet without ripping my head off. The clip in camera base, which attaches to the mount on the helmet, is the weak point. Manual page 7, parts 3 & 4.
I did try the Velcro method, However, I didn’t like it, moved around too much, and also a friend lost his when it came away. The foggy is good, does exactly what it says on the tin! The peak on the tour x is too flimsy to mount anything on it.
