Helmet type

Go into a motorcycle clothing retailer (or look on line) for a style that YOU think will match YOUR handbag and (of course) your awsome steed. Then try a few on or take pot luck. Use a mirror, to ensure that the look is as it shoud be or post pictures, as bods love pictures.

That's about as technical as I can get on this most pressing matter of getting 'The look' and no dubt 'The presence' that you are hunting for. Oh, that and trying to enquire in the Clothing section, as hats (styles, opinions on and wearing thereof) are not restricted to the ever so sensitive riders of one line (or indeed brand) of mass production motorcycle.

Got a link, mate?

Hi all.
New to the “adventure bike” thing and need to buy a new helmet as my old harley one just wont do :blast

Coming from a half helmet ( oo er mrs :)) - i,m not keen on being enclosed in a full face.
I do have a full face flip for touring but everyday riding still thinking of half/open helmet.

Any thoughts ? :nenau:nenau

Well i've read the adventure riding rule book and it doesn't mention not being able to wear a half helmet.
So i'd stick with what you have.

I wear a open face Momo, very popular in London with scooter riding females.

Hi Rowle, I'm right with you on this one.
I hate wearing traditional full face helmets; I find them claustrophobic and I feel a bit detached from what's going on around me.
What I have found is that "adventure" style helmets do reduce some of this over-enclosed feeling. They have a bit more room around your nose and chin, and allow a lot more airflow. I've settled on using a Shoei J0 (open face with flip down visor) for local rides in good weather, and a Shoei Hornet (adventure) for longer rides.
I also have a Shoei NXR (full face sport) for track days, and a Shoei GT Air (full face touring) that I've worn approximately twice.

I'd suggest trying an "adventure" helmet. Light, airy, good protection.

You rebel you. But hey, like the Hokey Cokey, that is what it's all about (abaaaaht, as they say in the neck of the woods) isn't it?

Ive got a scorpion ADX 1 helmet,

Its not the lightest at 1630G ish

but comes with pinlok, tinted inner sunvisor, removable peak, and you can remove the visor, and wear there own goggles

Noise wise,it's not as quiet as a dedicated full face, and the smallest setting on the visor is just a little too much, so you get the cut out in your eyeline

when looking down

Customer service is second to none,

Twice ive had to ask for spares just via a general email.

once due to me not tightening the visor screw properly and it dropped out.

The second was a couple of days before i was die to go to Dent, one of the plastic pull tags in the chin bar snapped.

They had a whole new ratchet assembly to me in 48hrs

After years with a flip up that I rarely closed I swapped to a shark evolution,
Pros, open face without a big sail on your head, ability to close it if needed, sun visor and standard visor can be used in open mode.
Cons, takes 2 hands to close, no matter how I set it up the pin lock scratches when raising and lowering the visor to the point that I binned it. (the pin lock not the helmet)

I can absolutely recommend the Shark evo one 2.... Open most of the time with the chin bar tucked around the back but a full face when required such as when it's p1ssing down :) Not had any pinlock issues though.

So, after a think i have bought a Scorpion Exo 220.
Gets a great review and has pockets for speakers. Anti pull off and integrated visor. I got one for £90 so thought it worth a punt to see what a half helmet is like.
On the test ride i had (pick my new GS up this week :)) i used my Bell shortie helmet and it was ok but no good for adding speakers etc so will try this half helmet for a while. :nenau

I do look a bit of a tart in it but i,m sure i,ll get used to it AND it matches my handbag :):)

Been out with my flip full face on again (On the bike before you ask !) and just cannot get on with that so might keep that for any europe trips.

Thanks everyone for the input.:bow

Yep. I have got a Shark Evo One 2. Amazed how often I ride in Jet mode. Great lids.
