I recently let my PC automatically update the Adobe reader to V7. Now when I try to open a .PDF or start the application, nothng happens. I have deinstalled, flushed out temp install files, rebooted, downloaded and reinstalled and still no joy. My system is XP Pro Sp2. I even tried Adobe reader V6 with no joy. :(

Anyone got any idea what to try next, I need to access some important .PDF documents ?

Thanks in advance.

I know when I upgrade to 7.0 I had a number of problems.

There were at least three fixes to it released over the last month or so (I think) and it appears OK now.

My version shows 7.0.5 23/9/2005 if that gives you any clues...

Thanks mate, but it is 7.0.5 that I have the problem with. :(

If you open Acrobat and then using the file menu inside Acrobat attempt to browse to and open a file does it work?

Does it just not work when you try and click on a document that "should" open using Acrobat?

It might well be that the file association has got messed up in this case.

Thanks for the replies. I had tried to remove temp install files with no joy. I followed the guide example No. 2 and removed some of the application data files relating to V6 and V7 then rebooted and reinstalled v 6.0.1 and it is working fine. I have turned off updates just in case, and managed to open and print my .pdf files successfully. Thanks to all concerned for the assistance. :thumb

I too got this updated V7.0 whatever...and real 'bloatware' it is too...mega huge file.
Had all the associated probs too...finally binned it and went back to v5.5 and killed auto updates, as already suggested.
Sometimes, newer ain't better !
