sense able question as some providers let you IE gmail /hotmail /live.com.:nenau

You will loose the bt email address if you change, I don't think they have the old dial up service running any more. That used to allow you to dial in once a month to keep the account running.

Is Virgin any better where you are than BT? Same wires to the exchange mostly.

For a long time I paid BT for a phone line and used a dial-up to Virgin. I therefore have an e-mail address of [email protected]. In March lasy year I signed up with TalkTalk who charge me the same as BT did, but now I get the best part of 8 megabits per second and a 40 gigabyte download limit per month. The installation CD set up [email protected] for me. When I first asked Outlook Express to get email it stalled on my virgin address until I reconfigured it to use the local area network instead of a dial-up connection. This let me receive mail from this address. To send mail from my Virgin address whilst connected to TalkTalk all I had to do was change the outgoing mail server from whatever Virgin used to whatever TalkTalk used. I don't guarantee that this will work in all cases but it only takes a couple of minutes to try.

fibre optic broadband :thumb

Other providers deliver their broadband through copper telephone wire, which means your speed gets slower the further you live from the phone exchange. Optical fibres are made of glass, and they're designed to send vast amounts of information at the speed of light (that's pretty fast). That's how we can deliver speeds of up to 50Mb.
No need for a phone line

fibre optic network means that our broadband isn't tied to the phone network, unlike other providers
fingers crossed :thumb

why do you want to keep a sh*tty bt mail account, get google mail or hotmail for free, with the functionality that's loaded through MSN, it'll keep you busy for a while....:pullface
