help, bike fell over and wont start

my adv fell over this morning, not sure how, but i heard it. and now it wont start. fell on grass so no damage, but more pissed off cause she wont fire up. engine turns but just not starting. would anyone know what the cause could be?

You hit the kill switch picking it up? Or there's a tipover switch somewhere to kill the fuel in the event of a tubmle I seem to remember.

Which model and which side did it fall on? May just be flooded, try again in a little while or crank with throttle held wide open, do not move throttle until if catches & do not crank for more than a few secs at a time.

Check the connectors to the injectors and plugs, check the side stand switch (and as advised check the kill switch)

Don't think "wide open throttle" helps at all on a fuel injected engine.

Also from personal experience, don't think there's a tip-over switch.. unless mine is faulty )

Yes, there is an equaliser pipe and a pump to even up the fuel between the lobes, but the pump is non-electric and relies on the bike running to work, I think.

If all the fuel is in one lobe and not being evened out because the engine isn't starting, perhaps that's the problem?

Stick 5 litres in from a clean jerry and see if that helps

Yep, that's exactly what happened to me, RAC spent an hour trying to fix the issue before trying the 5 litre option , started right after

if the gauge is showing empty (it only reads the left side 'lobe') then this is indeed the reason

So there we go folks.... If your bike falls over on its right hand side, just pick it up and throw it back down on it's left side before you try starting it.


People watching may think 'Look at that tw*t' but any fellow gs owner will be running over to give you a hand (ie: laugh at you).

The old adage of K.I.S.S., keep it simple, stupid, often holds true

To be honest I don't understand why there is a jet pump involved in keeping the lobes equalised on a 1200.....on the 1150Adv, there's just a nice simple pipe that goes between the two, so as soon as it's stood up, that good old gravity thing does its job and the fuel equalises between the two.

Think you hit the proverbial nail on the head there Fanum. At BMW there must be a whole department thinking up new ideas to make something as difficult as possible. Unless of course, uncle Friedrick has a factory that makes fuel pumps and nobody to sell them to..?
