Hi all, unfortunately I managed to crash my bike yesterday, and suspect it's being written off (don't know yet and haven't seen it myself?) mainly helped by an oncoming car.

as much as i liked the GS, I am toying with the idea of a much more modern replacement, it gets ridden all year round, and is my work horse that rarely gets cleaned (but does get maintained) need some ideas and experiences from those that have ridden and/or owned same type of models.
I don't really 'do' off roading, but think this is probably the best compromise of bike.

On my list of bikes, I've been thinking of....
XT660 (a modern replacement?)
ER6 (not quite the same)
DRZ (not sure it's a good commuter)

Sticking to brand loyalty
X Country
X Moto (tyre wear/winter use an uncertainty)
F650/800

Basically I want a bike that needs virtually no looking after, does loads to the gallon to rival the 650, and can do a bit of touring, with modern electrics, is easy on tyres, and very good/HID lights as I am a permenant shift worker.

Sorry, it's a bit long winded, but lots of various owners on here past and present, and need some ideas or models I hadn't thought of.

Thanks.

You've got the ER6 listed but not the model that gets all the best reviews the KLE650 Versys. Definitely one to try!

Thanks so far :) been looking at the versys after seeing a few on here, not really seen a bad write-up so far, apparently seem to be a bit viby at higher revs.
Can't (or won't) have a new GS, I'm trying to stick to £3-4K, (the lower the better) as it's going to be abused and neglected more than the others I have.

Whats the good thing about the twin over the single?
