help lost disk

i hope there is an easy fix

I have to load a new laptop with mapsource for my quest.
i cannot find my original city select V6 disks, which must be the full thing.

I can only find subsequent city select v7 and City navigator V8 updates.

i have loaded the Quest set up CD but thats where it stops.
i cannot load the subsequent city select v7 and City navigator V8 as they are only update cd and dvd respectively.

i am going abroad on the 16/5.

i have all the unlock paperwork.

is there someway of sorting this problem. especially without having to give garmin more money

I'm pretty certain that I've got the City Select v6 original disk with my Quest

I'll check tonight, but if you want to pm me, I'll see what I can do.

I'm pretty sure that I read that you can install directly from the upgrade disk. Insert disk, ignore/cancel any messages and then in Windows explorer open the disk by right clicking and selecting 'open'. Once in run CN.msi by double clicking on it.

If the update disk dose not work...and if you have the old PC, you can just export the branch of the registry for V6 (or v7, or v8) and copy it to the new PC and double-click the file to insert the entry you need.

Like so:
1. Launch Regedit (Start, Run, Regedit)

2. Navigate to the area of the registry you are interested in. It will look like:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\MapSource\Families\City Navigator Europe v8]

3. Select File (menu), Export and save as .reg file.

4. Note: Export Range at the bottom of the diagram and choose: Selected Branch.

i tried the above but couldn't make it work
(not got old PC / laptop to do a transfer either)

not even shouting at the laptop worked

so now looking for cheap zumo 550
anyone got a good source for them

Without reading all the posts.

Go to someones house who already has the version you need to use. Take your quest and your code. Load the maps you need. End of problem. Happy Holidays

wife sick and tired of my whinging
( her work mate i recon lost the disc when supposidly loading her lap top !!!)

so i have a zumo 550 being delivered (birthday and xmas V early)
every cloud has silver lining etc

Nav city zumo 550 V10 2008 maps = £368
