Abbey Wood looks like its down in Kent. If your coming down from the Midlands there are two campsites up my North London way easier to get if your coming down the M1 or the M40 way, parking in London is a bit of a mare but you can set yourself up an account online for parking by text in Westminster, Bus Lane you can use some but only the ones on the red routes just have a look at the signs and they show which ones you can use. If your on a bike no Con Charge to pay..

Ps what is the demo for?

Stayed at abbey wood camp site a few years ago, it is very, very secure, 15 foot fence round the perimeter, excellent services, automatic lights and taps in the toilet block. 10 min walk from tube station, not far from Thames Barrier (excellent day out) and not far from a riverside path that takes you to westminster bridge. It is a bit skanky in the immediate area outside the camp, so I would eat in town.

Er ...

... so lee valley looks to better option nice location as well.

... if it's this one you're contemplating then I'd seriously think again. The site is fairly 'open' and there are lots of peeps in the area with feck all to do except visit :augie

I'm not saying anything would happen, just that having policed the area for 5 years or so I wouldn't be too surprised

London Town

Abbey Wood is right next to Thamesmead which is a huge estate with a lot of negative vibes about it, but is probably like anywhere else- good bits and bad bits.

Bikes are exempt from congestion charges and can park free of charge in bays although not in Westminster where you will get fleeced as if you are a motorist.

Bikes are allowed in all red route bus lanes, a quick squint at the blue signs will confirm.

There is a very nice wooded campsite at Debden Essex which has tube links to the smoke quite nearby.

closed until may according to website

am i better off looking outside london then communting in?

from a outlying area themes valley oxford and down any suggestions?

always best to trust the police in terms of local knowledge.as i would of been taking a few gadgets with me.

I'd avoid ...

... most of NE London for the period under consideration; there's likely to be a fair bit of 'congestion' especially around the Excel centre :augie

Chertsey Camping & Caravanning site is a good one on Bridge Rd, Chertsey, KT16 8JX 01932 562 405. Short walk to train into town.
