If the oil light comes on when it shouldn't and there are no unusual noises it is probably a faulty oil pressure switch, or wiring fault. If there are noises that weren't there before the oil light comes on it suggests to me that there is a problem with the oil supply and that, as a result, there has been bearing damage. The main bearings on these bikes are plain and need a constant supply of oil under pressure. As has been said the easiest way to be sure is to test the oil pressure. I would not ride the bike until the reason has been resolved, although if it's already rattling as a result of oil starvation the bearings are likely to be fekked anyway.
