Can you please tell me what bike this Matchless is. The old chap who owed it says it’s a G12 but don’t think that’s right. Help please

It certainly does look like a matchless badge on the tank

It looks like a Matchless G12, circa 1960 - could be earlier, but we can't see the rear suspension. IIRC later bikes had a different silencer design.

Did the G12 have jampot rear shockers; :nenau

No - the jampot rear shock was used from around 1950 to 57. Then they switched to Girling.

The G12's were introduced in 1958, so would be Girling but, IIRC, the design, at least the external look, changed around 1960..ish. Later standard bikes had a shock that looks similar to say a Hagon, which I think gave a slightly lower seat height, whilst early models had an alloy section below the spring.

The marque Club will have a more detailed record - I haven't run an AJS/Matchless for 50 years, so my recall may be slightly hazy.

Chears squibb; like you it's over 50yrs since i had anything to do with Matchless; and that was the 350 single; :beerjug:

Looks like there is only a choke lever on the handlebars.
My 650 CSR had an advance and retard lever as well and that was a 1957 model if my memory is correct.
