I need to remove the side panel from the tank.
One bolt was really tight and the brass insert has start to turn in the plastic tank.
What is the best way forward?
Sorry don’t seem to be able to add a photo from my iPad.

Cheers.

Had the same problem on mine on the lowest one near the seat, I just cut a slot in the plastic and slid it out. Not ideal but no-one can see it.

I think with some gentle heat now the cover is removed I reckon I could lever it out with the brass still attached to the nut then clamp it in the vice to undo the torx, then just bond the brass back in, but I’m not overly bothered about.

Good idea. However does super glue work on that type of plastic?

Super glue works on almost anything, as long as it's clean and free of grease. In fact can you get in from behind and glue the brass part into the tank before you unscrew the fastener?

BTW, when you use superglue do you us the quick-fix activator spray? Works absolute wonders because the glue sets in an instant and seems to form a harder substance... it expands to fill any gaps too. Oddly, places like B&Q sell 10 kinds of superglue but not the activator. Screwfix is your friend.

Anything starting with the word “poly” is always difficult to get a good bond. We work hand in hand with loctite when it comes to adhesives and polyurethanes and polymers are a bugger to glue.

I got a plastic lever under a panel on my bike as if trying to lever it up and off. the friction caused the innerrubber to bit to the inner hole and screw came out..
Put some Vaseline on screws when puttin um back in

Many thanks, that is what I did in the end. Still enough tab to stop it lifting. The other screw close by will make it impossible to slide out.

@MikeDB1

Oh yes. When it was last put back in 7yrs ago, I used anti anti corrosive something, probably use copper slip this time!

Cheers,

Dont forget adding copper to stainless encourages electrolytic action (that's why I use a neutral Vasaline)

Yeah, don’t use copper on it, we use a cassida anti seize on stainless fasteners as stainless “picks up” really easily but that’s expensive for the home user.
