Hi All, Looking to movie from a F650GS upto a 1200GS, any tips on buying - what to look for. Been watching the forum for a while now, but really only see fuel pump probs & antena ring issues which disable the bike, any expansion on this or what to look for when buying - anything which could spoil a new owners enjoyment. Thanks in advance for the replies which are much appreciated.

Not going onto UKgser would help

Paranoia rules on this site.
Not reading the paranoid worries of people with nothing to worry about would probably be the beast way to enjoy your bike.

Thanks Myke, def not paranoid, but wanna enjoy before spending the inevitable wad on a bike fixing it, my F650GS been brilliant, hope the / a 1200 turns out the same..

Ride Magazine

i think this months RIDE magazine gave a comprehensive buyers guide for the 1200 gs. i also agree with the previous poster on this thread - dont spend hours on this forum reading to tales of woe. also get yourself along to a dealer and bag yourself a test ride. good luck with your search.

Me and my pal Mark rode our 07 1200 GS's around the world last year - April to September - and we had no mechanical breakdowns or punctures despite some long sections of no tarmac.

We had the fuel pump and ring antennae recalls done when they arose and have no issues with the bikes - mine has nearly 50k trouble free miles under its belt. The only thing I am meticulous about is changing the oil and filter regularly - in my opinion, the life blood of the machine.

My 2p worth...

Good history, not nec main dealer

Minimal corrosion, esp front of eng

Look for extras such as varios, screen, winglets, better seats etc, any of these will help you and be good for resale

Dont worry about the 1200 nay sayers, ive done about 115k on three with only one reasonable drama, FD unit

Enjoy Bike :)
