Hi All . Done a search but cant find anything similar.

Put my 1150adv in a family garage since mid Jan as I'm moving house. rode it in fine.

However last weeken I arrived to resurect it and the throttle stuck open when fired up. If i let go of the grip it doesnt spring back Just stays put.

I took the handlebar cover off and the cable seems fairly free. The doobry on the carb where the other ond of the cable connects will push back and then still springs freely.

So,if I wind the throttle back it feels fine but then sticks and will not spring back to it's off position. If I physically wind the grip off the cable doesn't go with it .

I appreciate thats not the most technical description :mmmm

The bike has 80 k on it and still the origonal cables.

I take it its a bastard of a job the get to the cable connector box under the airbox ?

Obviously I cant ride it to a dealer so i Just need a guide before I order new cables and pull it to bits.

Thanks in advance, H6

Frottle

Check the old favorite that the trottle cable hasent come out of the top of the throttle body. If not you'll find the cable has frayed inside the outer the only option is new cables, this happend to me out of the blue on the way to wales the other year, could not shut the throttle. So do fit new cables as if it happens miles from anywhere it's a pain!. If it aint the cable popped out it will be the cables.

Thanks

Thanks for the replys all.

Not the cables out of the throttle bodies , one of the first things I checked as I'd managed that before with a power washer !

I'll order new cables and see how I go replacing them . The link with pics will help.

Thanks for taking the time , it's appreciated

Replace the whole lot, including the junction box.
My cables turned out to be fine, the junction box wheel pivot had become siezed.
Access to the inside of the throttle bodies is a pain, I loosened them and swivelled them slightly outwards to help,(experienced folks just do this part by touch)
Enjoy............:comfort

Hi,

Just did a similar job last Saturday on my 1100RT. Switched from the 1 cable running across the engine to the splitter box system.

I had a pair of refurbished TB's and the cables and splitter box so I decided to give it a try.

Syncing the bike is easyer now, that's for sure.

What I would like to know, is how does the splitter box stays fixed to the battery tray? Or it doesn't?

Bike is running OK for now, but I do not like the idea of the box just hanging around in there...

I've seen a few of those over the last 18 months... The cable "wheel" seized to the pin, and the pin turns in the base of junction box leading to very stiff throttles .

Wonder if it's an ageing thing with the components that will get more common over time.

Dan,

I think the later bikes have an extra slot on the bottom of the ABS carrier. On mine, I just put some neoprene foam on top of the engine casing to stop it rattling around.

Will do that on the next time I will take the fairing off.

The trays have the same part # for both pre and post 96 bikes...

Will do what you suggested ;)

Thanks,
Dan.
