Help requested.

I intend to. Today, I rang BMW GB to speak with the person who signed the letter I was sent. They were not in the office today.
I have sent an e-mail, which has certainly been recieved by them. I wait with bated (baited?) breath.
WHat does that phrase mean anyway, anyone care to enlighten me?:P

with bated breath - in a state of suspenseful anticipation."
Ah, the wonders of modern science, computers and Google.
There you go then.

Oh bollix, I've just highjacked me own thread....Moderators!!!

 :D :D

Same problem here at 9800miles!!

oh yes..noticed the bugger slipping under load (higher gears).

Took it into BVM in Stroud (who very fortunately) had a workshop slot the same day.

Verdict - seal has gone and they are trying to get a warranty claim by BM despite it having expired back in February.

John Miles there reckoned he could put forward a fairly convincing case despite this - although by close of play today they had not responded to him.(not sure that that's a good omen)

Will be picking the bike up in the morning to find out full extent of financial damage! (painful month this one so far what with 2 new tryes, renewed insurance and now this and 12K service about 4 weeks away).

So by all accounts that'll be another £500 to find from somewhere - great as the bike may be, can't help feeling that the same fault on my old Triumph wouldn't have had the same sting in the tail.

And they reckon this is uncommon with 1150's...........that's bol**ks

Bad luck Marty.
Keep 'em coming chaps, its all power to me elbow. The more I read and hear about BMW in general, the more I realise what a bunch of muppets they are.
And I thought I was buying into a quality brand.
Lesson 1 - do me fecking homework better next time.

Update...

well all credit to BVM - went to pick up the bike to day. BMW have paid for the parts including new master cylinder and clutch (value around £180). I have had to pick up the tab for labour (£330)

but.... Mark and John at BVM are going to pursue the costs for labour from BMW next week and seem to be confident that I'm in with a chance of having some of this reimbursed (all credit to BVM's persistence here).

They reckon that given the age of the bike (only 3 months out of warranty) and that the milegae was 9800 they've got a case. I'll believe when I get the refund but still was`reassured by their attitude in the meantime.

If not I'll be pushing for reworking BMW over along with the Flying Banana.:(

HOT OF THE PRESS******UPDATE******UPDATE*****
READ ALL ABAHT IT*******
Still awaiting response from BMW as to whether they are gonna reconsider their offer.

SO, no change then,basically]

Hotter of the press...Ray of Hope

Mark at BVM reckons that BMW have agreed to foot the majority of the labour bill. Although he hasn't stated excatly how much this will be...I'm obviously pretty chuffed.

They have suggested that BMW take a while (4 weeks) typically to authorise the work and make their payment to BVM. Hence I need to call back early July to get my refund.

I'll blow a smalll trumpet on behalf of Mark and John Miles at BVM in the meantime, because it was their conviction that this fault had occured in an unreasonable length of time (ie. below 10K) that led to them pursuing the matter with quiet determination.

Bigger trumpet to blow on their behalf when my account is in the black again next month...until then I'll be scraping the pennies together.

Get the dealer to do the work Flyin' Banan, this isn't an isolated problem is it?

Marty, four weeks to get yer money, thats bollix!!! Push it, I know for certain that it can be done with in a day. Why are YOU having to call back in July? Next thing is that BMW will want us to service the bike us ourselves, stamp the log books, oh, and pay for it all! LOL
I tell yer the more I hear abouit all this, the more it angers me

Update ---- I have booked the steed into Wollastons today. Earliest they could get it looked at is end of the month. I am still waiting for a reply from BMW GB, in respponse to an e-mail I sent them. I do know however, that a letter is apparently on its way.
They are going to look at the clutch and also the leaking final drive seal that has developed over the last month and confirmed last Saturday.
I know its gonna cost a fortune, but I am hoping that when the diagnosis is complete, BMW GB may look more favourably on my predicament.
TBH, I feel completely drained by all this. Does anyone remember the feeling you got at Christmas , when you were a kid, given the toy youd wanted for months and months? Then come Crimbo Day, you eagerly rip the wrapping paper off, to find its knackered? The frustration and diappointment? Yep, thats me that is.
After this is all sorted, I am really going to have to examine whether i want to continue with BMW ownership.
Maybe I am naive, but I just feel let down, and wonder if I have got it all wrong. When I look at some of the problems others have suffered with major parts failing, and the cost of it all, I start to think that I clearly am in the wrong income bracket. However, I am not prepared put up with crap machinery in terms of reliability, just because it is a 'BMW' with an 'exceptional build quality'

I have a lot of heart searching to do

Cheers for listening

I can identify with that...

even toyed with the idea of taking a CB1300S out for a ride (despite that fact that I'm still mortgaged to the hilt with the ADV!!)...

but...I haven't done it yet...

and it's because on crappy weather days like today , torrential downpours, roads awash with all sorts of flotsam and jetsam - yes I mean its been that heavy down in the SW - I just wouldn't want to be on any other bike right now.

Is it just me that prefers riding in when others don't? I just kind of revel in the whole GS experience even more (probably falsely) - that and when she's all loaded up and ready to whisk me away for a few days. There's just something satisfying about throwing around a fully laden bike that gives me a buzz. The stripped down bare approach just doesn't give me the same vibe.

The CB appeals for the quality of its finish, the stonking motor and handling, has ABS, is pillion friendly, its damn fine looking IMHO and a very practical option now with the addition of a good looking fairing - even trumps the ZRX 12 I reckon. It retails at £7000 and is sorely tempting but would I regret it? Despite the hassles detailed above I reckon I would.

But maybe one day....I'd be kidding myself if I thought I'd ever buy into the whole brand loyalty stuff.

Stick in there mate...

Well people, the deed is done....YIPPEEEEE!!!!! I'm smiling again (for now);)

I got the beastie back this afternoon, all done and dusted. Clutch replaced, and no longer slipping. Innit great to be able to wind it all on. It doesn't half shift now yer know!

The problem turned out to be as I thought, the clutch pushrod seal failed. Steve, the service manager reckoned that the clutch plates were in tip top condition (apart from the oil spread all over it). Also, they replaced not only the final drive input seal, but the gearbox output seal as well, as it wasn't exactly clear where the oil leak from the final drive gaiter was coming from, i.e. which end.

I have to say I am mightily pleased with teh result, financially. BMW GB still only paid for 50% of the parts, but Wollastons met the other 50%, waived the labour for the final drive, and stood 25% of the rest of the labour bill, leaving me to pay £240. I was expecting something like £500 to £600. Good on 'em.

I can't complain about that, really. I was not expecting that, i can tell you, not after the initial scrap I was having.

My faith is restored at thisd point, so we shall see how it goes.
Its great to be back on the GS again, especially after the R1150R I had as a loaner. God it was fugging 'orrible!!!
When I got back on the GS, it was like sitting down on yer favourite comfy armchair, and it made me realise why I got the bike in the first place. I immediately felt at home.

thanks to all you guys who furnished me with information to fight my corner, its appreciated. I hope that this is an end to it all.

I shall leave it there.

Cheersm y'all:thumb

Can go 1 better than that!

...just called BVM (just inside the month as the wait and deficit in the bank balance was crippling me)

Happy bunny now - of the £330 labour bill BMW agreed to credit £292 of it.

A result

So all in all that £510 job has worked out to be £40 on a bike that was 3 months out of warranty. I'll settle for that.

Good news all round then

Well done to John at BVM for pursuing what he felt was a legitimate case.:D

Wollastons gave me an 1150R for the day when my 12GS was in for service. I reckon they do it on purpose so you appreciate more getting the GS back !!

Hi,
I didn't have any joy whatsoever when a bearing on the layshaft broke up and even more cheesed off to find the splines on the mainshaft and clutch friction plate where shot. BMW's reply was 'you have the choice of a full service history and extended warranty, as you have put no money in the pot, you can't expect any out.'!
I have serviced it to the manufactures spec and I thought that £8000 was enough money in their pot and they still went on about their highest build quality and the best materials in their reply to me!
01 1150, 35000mls.
Cheers,
Rob.

I said it was the push rod seal:D :D :D :D :D :D
Glad you got it sorted and are once more on the road.
