Well people, the deed is done....YIPPEEEEE!!!!! I'm smiling again (for now)
I got the beastie back this afternoon, all done and dusted. Clutch replaced, and no longer slipping. Innit great to be able to wind it all on. It doesn't half shift now yer know!
The problem turned out to be as I thought, the clutch pushrod seal failed. Steve, the service manager reckoned that the clutch plates were in tip top condition (apart from the oil spread all over it). Also, they replaced not only the final drive input seal, but the gearbox output seal as well, as it wasn't exactly clear where the oil leak from the final drive gaiter was coming from, i.e. which end.
I have to say I am mightily pleased with teh result, financially. BMW GB still only paid for 50% of the parts, but Wollastons met the other 50%, waived the labour for the final drive, and stood 25% of the rest of the labour bill, leaving me to pay £240. I was expecting something like £500 to £600. Good on 'em.
I can't complain about that, really. I was not expecting that, i can tell you, not after the initial scrap I was having.
My faith is restored at thisd point, so we shall see how it goes.
Its great to be back on the GS again, especially after the R1150R I had as a loaner. God it was fugging 'orrible!!!
When I got back on the GS, it was like sitting down on yer favourite comfy armchair, and it made me realise why I got the bike in the first place. I immediately felt at home.
thanks to all you guys who furnished me with information to fight my corner, its appreciated. I hope that this is an end to it all.
I shall leave it there.
Cheersm y'all
