Help Required Fitting Givi SRA5108

I am in exactly the position this poster appeared to be way back in 2016, however its not clear how this was resolved and I am stuck.

I'm struggling to fit the Givi sra5108 top box mounting plate to my 2018 R1200GS Rallye TE. The front part of it should all fit but the bolts to the rear foul the original black plastic of the BMW rack.

This is the carrier plate, fitted entirely as per instructions


As you can see in the next picture, the black plastic of the original BMW rack (where my thumb is) extend far to the rear of this carrier plate (Note: this black plastic "tail" is entirely absent from the picture in the fitting instructions).
And, because of this black plastic tail on the original BMW rack, I cannot get the nuts to line up with the bolt hole.
It just does not fit.

Can anyone advise please?

There are two types of black plastic insert, the one you have is for a Vario topbox.
You need the other, standard type. Usually available on EBay, or someone on here may have one, try asking in the wanted section.

I have the original one brand new in the loft if needed or I can take photos and measurements if required.

So I am clear,
I would need to take the alloy BMW rack off.
Then remove my black plastic (Vario) insert.
Fit a standard plastic insert. To be sourced.
Fit the alloy BMW rack back.
Fit the givi top box rack I have.
Correct?

You don’t need to remove the alloy rack just loosen it and slide the insert out and replace with the original insert.
