Start with buying a couple of decent maps of the area(s) you intend to visit.

Have a look at the shipping line's timetable (out and back) as they do not sail every day. The dates and times of the sailings will, to some degree or another dictate where you'll need to be on certain days.

Ask your SWMBO why SHE wants to go.

Have a look at:

Buy / download / borrow from a library / read in a bookshop, a half decent guide book from say, Michelin, Rough Guide or Lonely Planet

Put Portugal into the word search of UKGSer and read through several threads.

Consider going on an organised tour; they are not all crap, no matter what you read on these pages.

Last but by no means least, say 'Please' in any requests for help, please. Thank you.

my mother would be disappointed with me :-(

The booking site says:

Please contact the Booking Centre via telephone no. 00351 218 442 001. Thank you for your understanding.

Can't fault it really.

I have moved this thread into the Portugal section, where some bods who know and frequent the area may well see it.

She Who Must Be Obeyed

Thanks never saw that expression!

BTW you don't have to plan with 1 year advance, this is small and easy, take the bike and be spontaneous everything will be fine.

I would love to be able to do it that way BUT SHMBO has OCD !!

Well it will be like this:

Douro valley, my favourite area of the country.

I've stayed there, it's a great place, Ricardo is a top guide as well...:thumby::thumby:

Thanks Steve!

I'm not a guide just a guy who likes to receive foreign bikers in a typical Portuguese way! the same way others receive me when I visit they're country's.

But some of this forum members probably think that I made of it a business, cause every time I invited them to pass by, they start to act weird and almost never appears.
