Hello,

Question for the knowledgable, year 2000 1150GS.

Looks like all the grease has decided to leave inside the speedo drive, or bearings on the near side front wheel, and deposit itself all over the disc/hub etc

I know it's very hot today, do you think it has got too thin and been flung out?

I didn't notice anything wrong whilst riding, it was only when I parked up and happened to cast an admiring glance at my fine, handsome bike I saw all this cack on it.

I can't feel any roughness or grinding from the bearings, or speedo drive, but it really isn't too quiet where I am at the moment.

Any thoughts appreciated.

That should not happen if the correct grease is used, it might be hot, but there are parts of the world far hotter.

I would question the type of grease used to pack, or possibly re-pack the wheel bearings.

The bearings would be of the sealed type.
My guess is that the seal has failed for some reason.
New bearings I think

.
My guess is that the seal has failed for some reason.

Usually caused by the speedo drive wheel cutting into the bearing seal. Not the large speedo drive unit that you can see, but the smaller disc with the two prongs that sits on top of the bearing under the outer bearing dust cover/seal.

Thanks Neil, I was hoping you would have an opinion on this.

I am going to go along to your shop soon and order some new pads, they are contaminated as well, they certainly won't go rusty!

Cheers.
