Help! Wiring Kappa Topbox....

Help!

I have just decided to wire in my Kappa 48L topbox into my 2003GS's brake light system.

I've checked back on the posts, and found somewhere that you need to put the Kappa Black to the GS's Brown and the Kappa Blue to the GS's Yellow and Grey.

Well i've tried that and i'm getting nowhere fast, it ain't working no matter what I do. I know i've not blown a fuse as the rear bulb on the GS is still working.

I've fitted the wire kit into the universal Givi mounting, and that then touchs the underside of the topbox fine.

Can someone give me some pointers on where I might be going wrong?

I may be talking total b******ks, but if its the same as the Givi top box, then it uses LEDs - Light Emitting Diodes, which if I remember correctly are sensitive to the electrical current direction / voltage polarity...

Have you tried swapping the cables over...?

If that doesn't work, get hold of a voltage / circuit tester - check the lights are OK and you get a continuous circuit, and check you're getting power when the brakes are applied... if that all works...

Also, a tip for the future, I've got fed up cleaning and replacing the contact parts - a good idea but fails after about 12-14 months. I've replaced the Givi connection with a double pin waterproof connector. Knocked out the connector in the top box plate and one of the pins in the top box and used that to thread a cable through. The connector sits underneath, the bike end cable tied to keep things up out of the way.

i'm a bit dubious about the connection between the topbox and the plate as the two metal 'poles' are pressing on what appears to be black plastic. Shouldn't it be metal?

Or maybe there's a simpler answer......


.... errrrr try taking the plastic cover off the plate connector.....

guess how silly I feel?

Oh well, at least it works now, only problem being that one of the bulbs has gone....
