help with new DVD player HDMI

My old DVD player bit the dust last week so just bought a new one which has HDMI cable. Problem: the old setup was a SCART from Sky+ box to TV and another SCART from SKY+ box to DVD player. This setup still works with new DVD player but I want to use the HDMI cable and make use of the upscaler etc and I can't figure out a way to do this. I can only get sound when I use the HDMI cable - any suggestions?

1st question: why connect Sky to Dvd?

I thought the upscaler only worked on discs, not external signals.

In that case, it's easy.

Sky to TV = scart

DVD to TV = HDMI


Unless, is it a DVD recorder?

Not a DVD recorder.
What you've suggested is what I tried first but it didn't work... Faulty HDMI cable??

It must be HDMI 1 (although I didn't know there was a difference) - from the Amazon site: "Compliant with HDMI v1.1 Specification"

That would be my first thought, so get a HDMI 1.3 spec cable.
or do you need to tell the dvd what to output or the tv what type signal. normally these things are plug and play.

If your TV only supports 1080i and you have set the DVD to 1080p output I suspect that you might get sound with no picture through the HDMI cable.

if the TV is LCD it's gonna be 1080P the cables are on the whole are chomped out by machine a faults are rare...

I would have thought that going back to basics is best get a picture with a simple cable like composite.. then work your way up.

Sorry I'm not very good with domestic kit...

don't know the difference between 1080i and 1080p but the dvd output is def 1080p and the TV is LCD

p = progressive scan rate which is LCD technology and i = interlaced which is CRT based technology.

it's the way the picture is made again the trick is to start at the lowest end of technology and work your way up, it'll help in fault finding if you aim high the chances of a miss are increased. kinda like aiming for a match head at a 1000m try just getting it to work then improve on the solution.

can't put it a better way would try to help but I'm busy try to make a broadcast solution work which nobody else has a handle on...

for starters you need to eliminate the possibility of a faulty lead b4 wasting time with anything else , some of these are crap and are prone to problems - let me tell you i know, also not all lcd tv's are compliant with 1080p but that shouldnt be a problem for a standard dvd (not blueray )
