I know there are numerous threads about this.
I have just test ridden a 1200gs. Love it.:D and the folding stuff is ready to unfold.
However, after reading all this stuff about brake failures i'm not so sure I want to invest.:(
My heart says "yeah, yeah, yeah!! My head says "Noooooooo, dont do it"
What do I do. I don't want a honda:barf but I need mega reliable for my job.
Help!!

Were you expecting anyone to pop up and say 'no, don't buy it!' ??
;)

The number of 'brake failures' is tiny in comparison with the number they've sold.......just go and buy it, you won't regret it.

Welcome aboard BTW :)

or buy one without abs

save 800 quid and possible aggro

Forums are great information providers however my experience with forums with any product you will always see negative posts which will always create a doubt.

I have recently sold my motorbike and I will be ordering a R1200GS. I have no problems with the reliability of BMW, at the end of the day you have a warranty.

Have to agree with the previous posts. :D

Proud owner of a 12GS for two months & happy as a pig in s**t.

It really is the puppies privates. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Heart has beaten the head. Deposit paid!:D :D :D :D

It wasn't so much that I expected anyone to say don't buy it. More that I just wanted someone to give an answer like Fanums. Its what the voices in my head are saying:eek:

I felt exactly the same - so I bought an 05 model without the servo/abs brakes. They really are unecessary, too complex for their own good, the standard brakes are fine, after all they are 4-pot Brembos on the front and if bedded in properly have great feel and power. In my opinion all motorcyclists should learn how to brake properly and not rely on technology as it is often no more than a marketing gimmick! :-)

Well I got one with the Power assist brakes and apart from the slight feel of grabbing occasionally when "grabbing" too much at slow speeds they are splendid.

So far had the bike since Easter and 2000 miles and loving it!!

1300 miles since March 12th - never a problem and it's fantastic. Love it to bits.

All I can say is I thought long and hard about spending that much money (my car onbly cost £4K) and haven't ahd a moment's regret.

Go for one!

Before I bought my GS(1150) I read the various forums and very nearly didn't get it. For every positive post there seemed to be a negative one and I ended up searching for the negative. In the end I took the plunge with more than a little trepidation as I parted with my hard earned. Never looked back and love every minute on the best bike I've ever owned. Point is, if you look hard enough you'll always find someone with something bad to say about anything. At the end of the day we wouldn't all be here riding GS's if they were a pile of pants.

Enjoy the new bike!

Hi
I have come from Italian exotica and jap bikes both old and new road and off road fast and very fast to an 2003 GS1150 adventure. ( and of course the obligatory brit bikes)

I had all the worries in my mind about the brakes (ABS servo)
and seen the neg. postings.

but after test rides and speaking to owners I bought.

second hand so I hope if something was to go wrong it has already and there is warranty on it.

the weight is a bit of an issue but the more I ride it and park in the garage (backing it in up a slight slope) the more you get used to it.

Have yet to do a fully loaded trip -- June to Switzerland+ is the test.

and even though i hate to admit it - it is after all a BMW and there is a quality and production quality control that goes with those 3 little letters.

so go buy and enjoy.

New Gser

I will hopefully be picking up my bike on saturday:beerjug:
I am glad other people have had the same thoughts as me and still gone ahead. Heres looking forward to the best bike I'll have ever owned:D :D :D :D
