I was reading this thread and thought that the guy with 200 posts to his name provided much more helpful info than the person with thousands of posts who offered the benefit of his experience taking the thread stratospheric off topic, chucking some insults around. As the post was quickly closed I wondered if an apology was forthcoming, I doubt it but thought it deserved more airtime.
I love this place, but not always.
Just my ha'penny worth.
Happy Christmas and peace amongst tossers

sadley this place has become what c*nts like wapping have made it. they seem to forget that 10,000 posts ago they to may have known a little less, not the wap of course, he was probably born with a degree in everything...

He's not the only one, there's one or two more on here who you could class as educationally retarded, and seem to think they can stick there nose into anything just to piss people off, they are mostly recognisable by the large amounts of post's they have made which is mostly due to the lack of grey matter between there ears, and the inabillity to keep there opinions to them selves. mostly gobshites :blagblah:blagblah:blagblah:blagblah:blagblah

Looking at the number of posts, over a given time, I wonder if these "trolls" even own bikes  and if they do, ever ride them ?:nenau

It's easy to be a gobshite online, maybe they've got tiny pricks ?:augie

Having a large post count means absolutely nothing other than you have nothing better to do with your time ;)

Thanks for the support guys. I posted it, and closed it as I had solved my problem thanks to helpful advice from members. I did not really want to lessen the value of the links and info posted for the next person. This post is probably where things will continue from.

NOW:......
Having been a member for a while and a reader of many posts to learn... I have come across shocking insults and abuse hurled at lesser mortals, or so some think. Often by Wapping. So when he waded in, I was almost prepared for it. Not accepting of it though. Yes I agree, easy questions - that show lack of prior research - do warrant the odd sarcastic lament. Fair do. What oil; can the bike carry pillions on a journey with panniers etc posted as an opener is going to get you some abuse...and deservedly so. But there is no place for a genuine question to attract such vile abuse. If you pay a subscription, and want to learn and help yourself then do some research first. Failing that, one should be able and confident to ask anything on the forum and get the benefit of the group..so thanks all. Pleasure to be a member, and I don't hold hard feelings for wapping, some of his posts are valuable, but he does remind me of the school ground bully

story so far...
There were many posts with tools and sockets mentioned, but all the posts seem to veer towards a brand or supplier, not actually stating which set bought, did or did not do the job. So although I could find tools, I couldn't find WHICH tools. Actually all tools arrived yesterday, brake pads replaced this afternoon and torque wrench tested and for my uses (wheels, discs etc) it will probably do. Feels solid but loose and tolerances not quite as neat as a Teng I would assume. You gets what you's pay for. I had already spoken to Steptoe re my brakes, and was prepared to pay the man, but in so doing would learn nothing! Steptoe agrees, see other posts by him....Actually, it's cost me more to do it myself this time but I now know how to do it, what to look for, what tools to use and will continue to be able to help a fellow tosser should the need arise when touring or I pass a motorcyclist who may stranded I'll have more confidence to offer help.
...Secondly, I only left my bike at the dealers, because they offered to look into a stalling issue and a heated grips failure immediately if I left the bike and had brakes done AND a free loan bike. Otherwise it would have been on 7 January when I was working and a paid for loan bike plus a 40 mile round trip. So when I was there and they found the disc below minimum stamped thickness, I did try to call Steptoe to get comparison prices, but he was out. Anyway, left the bike there so ALL could be sorted but when I arrived home and was able to do my research I realized they were charging over the odds and if I asked on here I could try it myself.

:rob

I bet if you did a search for posts that that lovely Mr Wapping has made, he has probably contributed some of the best little snippets of wisdom and generally helpful stuff that's here.

Go have a read through his excellent guides on riding in France and on the incontinent, just as one example.

What some people forget sometimes is that this isn't a place that people can or should use as a free substitute for their local dealer and EXPECT or demand the RIGHT to getting full attention and service of some sort......Having said that, I don't think I've ever seen more than a few threads where any reasonable question has ever been not answered or a genuine problem not addressed :nenau

If there was a large subscription and that money was to provide a pure technical service, then yes, I can understand people getting a bit miffed, but it's not.

The reason people do post replies is because they are usually trying to help a fellow GSer out...sometimes with a liberal dash of humour thrown in, sometimes with an acerbic comment added as well if it's a question that has been covered several, if not hundreds of times and the person asking the question should and could have easily found the answers to it.

That nice Mr Wapping is actually one of the gentlest, politest and warmly funny guys here in real life....calling him a **** because he took the piss out of a question is frankly, bang out of order, and I, in true GSer fashion, have taken offence to it on his behalf :augie :rob

Having more information (and ostentatious information at that) in your signature than in any of your posts....so what does that say then? :augie

What is it with non subscribers?

Pay fuck all to support the site and then think they can tell others what to do and be rude with it.

Voldemort does the same in the Airhead section.

If you don't like it, fuck off.

If you do, pay up.

No idea - perhaps you could enlighten me - with a post count as big as yours you must know the answer :comfort

Post #15 makes a good point (and I also dislike unwarranted snotty answers), but it is TBH a bit OTT. Any less than thick skinned newby would be unreasonably careful what s/he says.

That said, some folks want everything spelled out in detail before they will dip a toe. The huge AIT spoofing threads is full of that sort of stuff.

Some people think having a high post count gives them right to rule over us inferior beings.....and are ignorant and insulting whilst doing it :augie

Personally I think we're all bikers....if I can help, or offer advice, then I'll happily give it. I think people forget that what's old hat and simple for some, is new and mysterious to others...a helpful hand helps all :D
