Here we go again....strange noise!!!

Started the bike this morning and after moving off I noticed a different strange noise!!!
At about 3k ish revs, there is a metal tapping noise; I can best describe it as the sound of one of those pneumatic road drills...

I have not heard this noise before!!!!

Does it sound to be at the frequency of engine speed or half engine speed?

It's when it makes no noise at all that you really have to worry. That's the fuel pump controller or the EWS problem (see your other threads).

PS It's normal.

The engine's probably a bit cold. It clatters, as it's a crude engine......

.....Or maybe you are trying to ride it around in 6th gear at low rev's (that happens, too).

That's a tough Q...... I would say definitely a lot slower that 3k rpm, if that helps??

I also think i am getting a bit of a pinking rattle noise at 4k under load?

you are thinking too much it's bad for whatever brain cells you have left
so less of it and more riding if you cant ignore the noises get better ear plugs

You of course are correct and I am seeing a Dr about my affliction....
His advice was to ask on this forum about the noise...

The bike can sound different if it is a nice sunny day and if it is a slightly cold damp morning.

Also the bike will actually go better on a cold morning (it is all to do with density of air).

Questions:-

Have you riden the bike recently prior to this morning?
Is today the first sunny day?

I know they sound like stupid questions but they may give you the answer.

I thought I had grown used to the boxer noises, but this is one I have never heard before..

You're riding it too slowly. Try 5000 rpm in 6th gear, that should cure the noise.

Unfortunately, 3k in traffic is a useful rev range.. I am going to ignore it and assume all is well... I haven't got anything to compare it to anyway...

my bike makes all sorts of weird noises,cold and hot ,clunks as well ,more so when hot ,my old 1150 adv used to be real bad for rattles .never broke down in 15000 miles . just made more noise.
