Here's a good electrical problem

An 1150GS completely dead. No instrument lights, no side lights, absolutely nothing.

Battery has 12 full fat volts and terminals all tight.

Ignition switch wiring loom is all tickety boo.

Relays and fuses all OK.

I'll be "going in" later today....

Still measuring 12v at the battery when the ignition switched on?

Fractured terminal post inside the battery, will still measure 12v with a meter but as soon as you draw ANY current, then nothing

I had that problem but on a series 1 Cosworth .....

It turned out to be an old immobiliser that I didn't know was there .....

Some halfwit had by passed it badly with scotch locks ....

Thinking some more There's a few more things it could be

Contacts burned in ign switch

Load shedding relay

But one things for sure

It's in the right place for it to get fixed :-D

Look forward to a report of findings so I can file it in my "bits of useful info" file

Is the battery chinese? Some of their volts are not made to european standards and get stuck in the wire at bends, because the counterfeit volts are bigger and not as smooth as ours.
Sucking-out the blockage using reverse polarity never works, so a new harness is the only solution.

Their Amps are even worse. Totally wrong shape, and clog-up alternator regulators.
You can clear them out with a magnet if your lucky.

No power reaching ignition circuit.

A Broken wire somewhere in the badly decomposing loom.

So i bypassed the loom and added a live circuit to power the ignition.

Job done. Never had a bike in showing the symptoms this one had.

How old is the bike? Can you seen signs of the decomposition then? Sounds like its going to need a new loom soon.

Been getting a lot of that problem recently with a lot of mains voltage film lights I have been repairing. The wires are snapping inside the flex where the cable is forced to go into a tight bend.
