OK I have a friend in Tanzania who has an old Suzuki he cant get gaskets for its a Jap import! what can he use to make gaskets with Head etc, when i was a kid on the old scoots we just used to stick hermatite every where, but there must be better alternatives these days, any ideas? Thanks Chris.

You can get gasket paper to cut out your own, not sure about a head gasket though because of the greater pressure created!
have cut many gaskets but there is a knack to cutting them usually a hammer to tap around the part you want the gasket to be for, and a ball bearing or similar to cut the holes out for bolts to pass through.

you can buy sets of proper gasket hole cutters very cheaply at those crap tool stalls at autojumbles etc.

I've used silcone sealant (bathroom type stuff) in the past instead of gaskets, for crankcase etc. Don't think it would work at the cylinder head though!

Try this stuff.....

It aint cheap but it is good.....Honda sealant for low pressure areas.

Low modulus silicone sealant for replacement rubber seal gaskets, copper sheet for the cylinder head gasket/s.

Surely you could source the gaskets for him and ship them over to him.

M & P hold fairly large stocks of gaskets as do Busters and Hein Gericke.

I've used my business card to make a carby gasket.

Silastic works where there is little petrol ie not carbys, inlet track.

You may find the old cylinder head gasket will work - a clean and some sealant around the oil holes. Really ancient things had soft copper head gaskets - reannealing them and reusing them was standard practice. On old Montessa I had - there was no head gasket - relied on head metal to cylinder metal contact only.

thanks for that everey one, my problem when trying to source it for him is that all his engine nos etc dont match up with anything the supilers have on there dodas and he has no real idea how old the bike is! I,m going to send him out a set or two anyway but also I need to send some emergency stuff to, thanks again.

aluminium paint

i have heard of guys using aluminium paint for two strokes' head gaskets. i dunno if it can come apart after that though.

Make a template
Get good quality leather sheet
Cut out carefully
It worked on my old 650 Bonneville a long time ago!

try some of the jap import companies such as BAT motorcycles, or search worldwide, you may get them cheaper in japan!!!!
