HEX GS 911 - Advice

Interesting thread and thanks for the info!

Bought the full version of the MotoScan app along with the UniCarScan device yesterday as a cheap option for my GSA1250 which works great for service resets and reminder settings but the polar opposite for ESA adjustments and tinkering with other control units as I found out this morning. Thinking of upgrading already...

I just got one of these gizmo's.
HEX GS911 Wifi enthusiast.
At the moment I keep my bike in the underground parking lot.
It's been very frustrating trying to set it up. Being able to plug it in and use with my phone was a key reason why I bought it.
I have internet in our flat. not in the underground.
We use a mac. the mac link doesn't work on the website.
The USB connector has the same fitting as the printer we chucked in the recycling 10 years ago.
The mac doesn't recognize it as a new device when plugged in.
My Iphone downloaded the app. Does Not recognize it when its plugged in to a computer and powered up
No problem I will just pop down to the bike and plug it in.
The lights flash a nothing happens.
I can connect phone to its network by wifi. Not mine because its to far away.
Unfortunately it wont do anything until its registered.
I'm a computer idiot. Not being able to figure it out not surprising. Of to visit my son with GS911, it will cost me some beer and a pizza but I'm sure he will figure it out.
After 20 minutes he asked me where I got this. Was it a legit company or a chinese scam? I bought it from a Legit online canadian retail outlet.
He still had some doubts and said the Mac IOS links are not working and have lots of warning about mal ware.
He wouldn't use his work computer due to malware warnings.
My daughter brought over and old PC laptop. My son registered it using old PC the PC windows link worked.
Back to the bike plugged it in.
I was able to reset some old fault codes. TP sensor Key Fob.
Not the service reminder. For that I need to be connected to the cloud. F!@@#$#$%%.
My bike is in the underground my wifi is in my apartment several floors and lots of concrete away .
So why don't I just go outside and use my mobildata?
Nope it needs to be on a wifi network but wont connect to my wifi network.
So the whole reason i bought it to reset the service reminder after I did the service.
Is still a complete bust.
No I haven't tried to bleed the ABS. I don't trust it well enough yet.
Is there an easy way to get this thing to work?
Why can't it just do blue tooth like any other gadget I by and it works right away. Hey siri and it works. even with a scottish accent.

I had the exact same problem you’re experiencing. The simple fix is to get bike out of garage and close to WiFi and connect with MAC. Alternatively, you’ll need to use your phone’s hotspot and connect MAC.
Do you have at least 4G in garage?
I want lie it’s a faff, but South African guys at Hex are very helpful.

Hi Jmacd62

Apologies for your experience. I can appreciate the struggle that you must've faced up to this point. Naturally, with things like WiFi, it does help to have some understanding of how this works.

As TIJ650 mentioned, you are able to connect using mobile data, but this will be in the form of a mobile hotspot for the GS-911 to connect to. This is the one option, which will require some setup (which may introduce more frustration, as you'll need to first connect your GS-911 to one of the Mac or Windows app to setup), or alternatively, you can enable your mobile hotspot, and use the Windows laptop from your daughter to connect to the hotspot. This way, the laptop will have internet connection from the hotspot, allowing the GS-911 Diagnostics app to connect to our cloud server for cloud functions like coding, etc.

To setup the hotspot on the GS-911, you can use a USB connection with your Mac or Windows laptop/desktop (although you mentioned that the Mac doesn't detect it?) and use the WiFi utility to setup a network, it's a very simple app, with all the buttons explained in our FAQ on this below:

For a more advanced way to set this up, you can also follow our video guide on setting up a mobile hotspot without a laptop:

Just remember to include as much info as you can, pictures of what you're seeing helps us get a better idea of what is happening.
