Hi Folks, Was in Newry recently at HG shop looking at the MasterV and Cruise suits. I was trying the jackets on over my fleece as presently in winter weather I need a fleece on under my Akito jacket. The guy in the shop says to me that I should take the fleece off for correct sizing, that the HG jacket is so warm even in winter that I wont need my fleece on under it. My eyebrows raised suspiciously needless to say. Are you sure I say, Irish winters 'n all. He assured me that even in sub zero temps the Master V and Cruise are so warm you don't need a fleece on over your t-shirt and jumper??? Has anyone got any of these products that can verify this. The difference is a full size, if I really don't need a fleece under it as he says then I need one size, nice snug fit, if this is cr*p then I need the bigger bulkier size. What d'ya reckon folks???????

I've got a Master IV, and found that plenty warm enough without a fleece in the Winter.
The lining on the Master is very good but in the very coldest of days you'll need something underneath especially at motorway speed or in cold fog. Problem with the fleece under is it gets very bulky.
I prefer to go for a heated jacked (used with or without the Master lining).
Makes modulating the heat much easier.

i have used mine in freezing fog with ice build up on my arms and shoulders - i had a thin fleece on and only rode about 50 miles but it was fine - top suit!

So he was telling the truth. Sounds like a good jacket then. This winter on the cold winter days I was wearing a icebreaker merino wool thermal top, a t-shirt, a jumper, a fleece and then my akito jacket and I was still getting cold after an hour or so of motorway. Thats why I found HG's claim a bit suspicious. Fooking ell no more feeling like the Michelin Man then?

I think Akito are a bit 'pants' - as they say...........you should have no great difficulty staying warm under a GOOD jacket; HG, Dainese, Rev'it, Rukka, Aerostitch etc etc. Pricey perhaps........but then, simply put, comfort = safety and you dont want to mess with that, do you.........worth the money and will give you a good few years service unless you are a victim of fashion and have to have 'the latest'

+1 I have cruise jacket for 2years now and never had a problem.. inner lining is removeable and really only for coldest days.. I only ever wear polo shirt under... quality gear IMO

Bought the HG Master V through the HG ebay shop of warranty/returned items and the previous owner said the Master V isnt waterproof, therefore he returned it.
I find the jacket excellent, with just a thin fleece in addition to the Master liner, the 350 mile run through foggy Netherlands/Northern Germany last week was ever so nice and the 15 min. downpour did not make the jacket wet.
The Master V pants are awesome as well, especially if you want to keep the back warm.

The Master Vs (jacket and trouser) are worth all the attention and the claims do stand up. They are totally waterproof as its made from a GoreTex material called Pro Shell (check out GoreTex's website). Heck I've washed mine twice in NixWax's Tech Wash then another wash with NixWax's re-proofer (probably doesn't need it, but what the heck). One of the nicest things is the light weight of the gear, plus the jacket etc look good when off the bike.
I was rather disbelieving of the thermal liner too [1] and IME it works perfectly. For any journey where the temp is under 10C, longer than 30mins, with speeds above 60 means the thermal liner comes out and the Gerbings Heated jacket goes in.
I've rode in mine all year-round nearly every day for over a year in -degs through to 30degs (a tad warm!) but its without doubt the best gear I've worn in 250K miles of riding.
The one thing I don't like is the non-adjustable cuffs, thankfully I have a pair of muffs on the GS to keep the wind at bay (has to be really cold though) .
Lastly, I wouldn't want to crash in it!!
