Hello just sold my vfr and looking to buy a gs
How much mileage is too much?
seen a nice bike with 59k its putting me off

You don't mention which model - 1100, 1150, 1200? Not that it matters much. If it's been well looked after and has lots of paperwork it's not a particularly high mileage. Lots of threads on here about mileage if you do a search.

Don't worry about the mileage, buy your bike on condition. Had 83,000 miles on my 1150 before I sold it. My F800GS now at 84,000 miles and going strong

Don't get hung up on higher mileages. 59k, if it's got a good service history, is nothing. Guy over the back from me has a 112k on his early 1200gs, services it himself twice a year - does the whole lot, all filters, oil, gearbox, and final drive. It runs brilliantly.

I've had so many bikes over the years all with north of 80k on the clock, bought em cheap, looked after them well, and none ever let me down.

in all honesty I like them all would a low milage 1150 be better than a high mileage 1200 ? ive got a budget of £3500-4500 the less spent the more shiny bits I can afford.

I get the impression that the 1150 is smoother all round than the 1200, a tiny amount lacking in power over the 1200 but unless you're a pro, you'll not notice.

For that sort of money you'll get a lovely 1150. Bit heavier than the 1200 but arguably better built. The 1150's are rather lower tech if you do your own spanners. My 1100 has 70,000 miles on it and is just loosening up nicely.

There's an old chap on another thread, got a year old GS for sale with only 4k miles on it but it sounds like its drinking oil so you should get it cheap!!!!

Nah still looking there was a nice low milage one on mcn but I missed it
I normaly jump at the first bike or car I see but this time im being a bit more cautious as there seems to be a lot of things to watch out for ie
servo assisted, non abs, abs right type of callipers etc etc etc
has it had the final drive serviced? seems like a mine field
went and has a look at a tiger 800xc(nice but expensive) and a tenere (so basic) so my net is being cast
far and wide.

Im 6'4" when wet so seat height isnt a problem

1150 adv, its a classic. Dont worry about the servo if it goes wrong you can remove it for no cost.

My 1100 is rolling up to the 100,000 mile mark and still rides like the day I bought it. I thought about buying a lower milage 1150 lately but did a bit of research and there's loads of 150,000+ milers (mainly in the states) so why change - there's no problem with high milage.

My mate has the 1150 adv and even though I'm 6'4 and 16 stone it feels like a monster compared to mine. So if I was to downgrade I'd get a standard 1150 and put an adv beak and seat on it for looks.
