That's the point I was making - you rely on it to keep you safe.
What I don't do, as you are advocating is rely on hiviz to keep me safe.
a brand new goretex over jacket for £35 is something of a bargain.

Bargain indeed......have they got any in black?

I'm sure you think it's worked for you. PS - HiVis doesn't work at night.![]()

Because of course, it's every bit as easy to see a matt black jacket at night than a bright yellow reflective one that sends a high proportion of the headlight light back towards the car.
Really, the ability of some people round here to deny reality just to try to prove themselves right is staggering.
Sorry to repeat myself, but, well...
Yes I DO rely on it to keep me safe. Just as I also rely on road skills, brakes, a helmet etc etc.
You can't rely on it, because you don't wear it. Rely then just on whatever else you can. Every little helps. You haven't said what the downside is yet.

…posted on this several times in the past. Kept away so far but feel I gotta add my piece as well and add to some ‘experience’ (not perception) from posters above.
Tarka -you usually have some good stuff to say, IMHO on this topic you speak nothing but bololcks.
The word vanity was used above, I will add immaturity to some of the negative jibes going on. Boy bikers bein 'ard is all I see, with some pathetic and insulting comments on those riding capabilities of hi-viz wearers.

Similar attitude to myself except I am in still in partial denial by continuing to wear my black helmet !! It does have reflective stickers on it tho![]()
Okay..so you`re happy being a Dayglo Derek...doubtless with yer daytime lights on too.
I`m not.
You lot are gradually going to bring in opressive legislation due to the classic Pavlovian Dog syndrome of social sterotyping.
You`ll be happy,no doubt.
I won`t.
Nor will many others.
Ah well....cometh the day I too can nonce about pretending to be a bike cop.
A unfortunate train of thought if ever there was......
Shifting the onus and making it our responsibilty to try and make ourselves visible to the blind...... rather than using our own observational and defensive skills while campaigning for better driving standards and harsher penalties for feckless idiots and vehicular homicidal merchants.
The main downside is people's strange abilty to use hivis to replace their brain. Much as you do.

I wear a white lid and the HG jacket and put some embarrassing visibility stripes on the black panniers. Knew it would cause 'concern from the fashion conscious' but don’t give a toss what they think.

Why do you KEEP saying that hiviz wearers ride more dangerously.

Like I said, Vanity. (Well, you never see Ewan, Charlie or Valentino wearing hiviz. And what about my lovely new set of leathers/twat suit - why cover them up? And how will people know how funky, young and cool I am?)
