HID bulbs

I fitted one of Vilguy's HID kits a couple of years ago. The kit's still going strong but after 30k miles/600 hours I'm wondering whether it might be an idea to lay in a spare bulb for it-what are people getting for bulb life expectancy?

My GS came with one already fitted. I don't know how long it had been fitted before. I've done 43,000 in the last 2 years and I'm still using the same bulb. I always have the lights on. A quick calculation and I reckon it's been 666 hours

That said, I've cast the words of doom now so it;ll probably fail on the way home tonght.

I'm not really answering your question though am I?

FWIW I had two go, each after about 10k km - both dips, therefore on all the time.

I may have been unlucky

Thanks-think I'll get one in just in case. I wouldnt want to be without it now, even if it does send city drivers over the edge a bit!

Depends on the quality of the 'bulb'. Expect around 2000 hours from an aftermarket one.

I had to buy an HID bulb for my single HID spot - it cost £80 . That was 6 years ago. They're far cheaper now......

In the end it wasn't the bulb. It was a broken circuit in the ballast. Used a very long reach soldering iron (the type used when repairing computers), and fixed it. Worked OK ever since.

When I removed the bulb I saw it is actually broken at the base.

Is this normal for a "blow" HID bulb or have I just been unlucky?

I've sent an email into hid50.com to get a couple of replacements. Hopefully they won't break the bank.

I just bought a pair of hid burners from a US ebay store, £25 shipped. What I meant to buy was a set of burners and ballasts so I'd happily pass mine on to you for the same price. They're brand new, in box. Rated at 50w but I think the burners are all the same and only the ballast changes. They're 5000k colour, H1 bulbs.
