HID headlight problem

Hi all

Small problem, decided to fit a hid lamp to my 2010 GS, now being a skinflint i had a 35watt car kit going spare and duel y fitted. Problems started,, lamp would strike up and stay lit for about 20 sec's then go out and lamp failure icon on dash.

In a rush i left it for later and went out on a ride. After 2 starts the lamp stayed on even after five or six starts all day, cracked it i thought..next day lamp error..

No problem ebay to the rescue, two plug in error code rectifiers to simulate a 55 watt bulb....No good same start up problem after 20 secs even trying both of them, so much for being a skinflint. There must be a fix, and dont say buy a proper one,

Buy a proper one.

The GS has a very sensitive CanBus loom which wont accept a 35w bulb.
You need to fit a 55w HiD mate

I'm not aware of any work around. But I could be wrong.

It sounds to me like you may have a dodgy ballast? Many of us have fitted 35W HID kits without any problems whatsoever. Some have encountered problems with the canbus, but that usually happens straight away. It may be that your ballast is drawing too much current, causing the CanBus to shut it down.
Can you try the ballast and burner in a car to sees if it is OK?

Our cambus pro 35w work fine and have done from 04
We have alway used 35w as the reflector can burn ,

i see

i have been running on a 35w HD kit for nearly 3years with no problems so its not an inherent problem with the can bus system
sounds like its something wrong with your particular example of HID

I'm running 35W cheap HID Main,Dip and 2 x Aux with no canbu error at all

Maybe there's something different about ballasts intended for use in cars? My 55w HID on the bike takes a while to warm up to full brightness, but the ones on the car are fully bright even if you flash the lights briefly. Perhaps this "instant on" feature is what's drawing too much current somehow?

Other than that all I can think of is the same 35w low draw cause that others have suggested.

this baby worked a treat no errors and good value. Thought it might help if your having trouble with your ballast. (super slim as well)
