When I started up the other day I noticed the main beam and my aux spots didn't come on.

All HIDs

The high beam worked fine.

I set off and eventually they came on.

Just driven in this morning and they're off again

Again, high beam works fine

Any ideas?

I'll check the fuse (but doesn't the high beam use the same fuse?)

If they're working intermittently I'd be more inclined to suspect the connections or wiring rather than the fuse.
It sounds like there's a break in your wiring somewhere.

Had you stopped after a bit and then restarted the bike and noticed the lights were ok?
If so - battery. Not enough voltage to get the lights going after the cold start but after a few minutes of charging up it will be ok after the motor's hot started.

+1:thumb2 dodgy connection/earth, i assume your aux lights are fed from the dipped beam. As they are hid's maybe a ballast is failing..

Yeah, they are fed form the dipped beam.

So just got to work and as I parked up I fiddled with the bunch of wires behind the headlights and they came on, so dodgy connection it must be :blast

Might be some water ingress with all this rain?

I'll get checking on the weekend.

Thanks chaps :thumb2

I presume you've already cut the overly tight cable ties which are commonly found on these bikes? This will help relieve the tension caused by constant flexing of the cables at those points.
If you do find a break in the cables, then great!! Get your solder iron out, heat shrink and some self amalgamating tape.
Easy.
Let us know how you get on.

Not had a chance to investigate further yet, but wiggling the wires the other day seems to have sured it - must have just been a bit of water somewhere

Might be worth checking if the hids in the headlight are triggered and fed by the low beam circuit or if the ballasts run straight from the battery via a relay and the low beam switching just triggers the relay.

Read somewhere that if hids are powered using the standard switch without relay that high voltage they draw on start up can knacker the switch after repeated use. Might be worth checking to see if the low beam hid and indeed the rest use relays and if not have a rewire. Hid relay kits ready made can be had for less than a tenner.
