HID switching.

Fitted the time delay relay this afternoon and it works a treat. Thanks for the advice.

In the end I removed the load relief relay and replaced it with the time delay relay via 4 fly leads. I decided not to use the diagnostic wire solution as I wanted to keep everything within the fuse/ relay box.

I found that by doing it this way, should anything do wrong with my plan, i can pull the fly leads and replace the original relay.

If you decided to replace the load shed relay why did you need to use flyleads? Did the relay not fit the original relay base?

Good thinking it does keep things simpler.

It's a good point and defo what I would have done if I could but the time delay relay is approx twice the size of the original relay.

Well done,, I wonder if they do a plug to fit the relay base? I suppose you could use a stripped out relay and solder the wires inside to make a "plug"

I did spend a bit of time on the internet looking for suitably sized (micro?) relay with a time delay but couldn't find one. Ref you're point: yes I guess you could take the timing circuit (capacitor?) from the new one and transfer it to a donar relay chassis.

However by the time I'd worked out how to do it, I'd used all my 'garage' credits for the day as my 7 weeks old daughter was kicking off and the wife had 'that look' going on, if you know what I mean.

:toungincheek

No, I was just suggesting using and old empty relay as the end plug for your fly leads , keeps them in order.

You are having a laugh, keep things simpler....

FFS what a load of pissing about for nothing. I'm still running the same ballast and burner that I installed 11 years ago and don't have any of the fart arsing about delays and bolloxs mentioned here

some people have too much time on their hands ;)

And the troll prize goes to....

Probably only does the 10 mile round trip to the MOT station, no wonder it's lasted 11 years ;)

try 14K a year spanker

I don't understand trolls like you, if you don't want to have a relay don't have one! I'm not but the same relay is useful for other stuff I don't want fired up on ignition.

But I guess with the average life expectancy in Scotland you don't have the time to waste:D

Still think it only sees the MOT station though :tosser

and of course sunny Sluff is just the perfect environment for a healthy life isn't it.........:eek

Given your response and attitude I doubt that you're even capable of independent thought........ don't expect a reply to any more of your drivel :tumbleweed

Excellent, troll silenced:thumb2

Seadog, Just because one light has lasted a few years does not offset that the likely-hood of a ballast failing is greatly increased if you hot start it every time you start your engine.

11 years ago when you say you first had one, dipped lights were not automatically lit when the ignition was switched on so the problem did not exist. Only on the later 1150 is this a potential issue.

Do you feel that because someone is overweight, drinks and smokes a lot and does not exercise but lives to a ripe old age indicates that we should all do that???

If you want to ignore it, go ahead but don't criticise people that want to reduce fault liability.

Have you ever wondered why vehicles fitted with HID lights as standard dont have them hot starting each time they start their engines? why not write to the manufacturers and tell them it is as you say a "load of fart arsing and Bollox?"
