I've just been reading up on the HID kits and I'm sold!

Just need to find a supplier, and whether to go for 35w or 50w...

Has anyone fitted them to their 650GS? How much work is involved?

The 650 needs a H4 kit and is therefore more expensive.

You have 2 options, a H4 thbuld that is one bulb and a solonoid that moves the beam to acheive full beam, or an H4-2 that has 2 HID bulbs on the one back plate. I have fitted a H4-2 to Mrs Flips Transalp. It's superb on low beam but dipped is a bit poo. It uses 2 ballasts on the H4-2 kit whereas the other only uses one.
Either way I believe that full beam is sacrificed but low beam is awesome.

I will fit additional spots to Mrs Flips to get the full beam up to top spec.

Hardest part of the job is finding a place for the ballasts, but if you aren't sure then let someone who knows do it. They kick out 25000 volts :yikes

Not cheap (well not here in the UK) but the Touratech xenon kit for the 650 is a wow! Add on a foglight and matching xenon aux. headlight and you'll turn night into day :thumb

RT1100 and HID's

As the original question but for an RT1100?

Just picked one up (my new commuter bike), curious as to whether an H4 HID setup is available?

Sorry for the slight hijack colm_c :)

Try Colebatch but I think he's given up with H4 due to the problems with full beam. If not try ebay.

The H4 kit (as long as it is bi xenon) will do all H4's that do hi and lo beam, so yes it will do an RT also

Beware because some h4 xenons are single beam only (cars use them mainly IIRC).

H4 HIDs

The one in the pic looks OK. The ballast looks a bit chunky but it should be OK. I am still trying a few different options with H4s, as I have not found anything outstandingly good yet. Hoping to have some good options later in the year .. in time for winter.

I have been told to beware of the telescopic H4 bulbs that have a metal base ... they have been known to cause fires. The ones with the black plastic base should be OK.

At this point, there are no 50 watt H4s on the market ... that I am aware of anyway. They are all 35 watt.
