High mileage R1200GS/GSA LC

Have had my 2016 gs for just over 40,000 miles. It's had a water pump under warranty and that's it.
Tours Europe each year.
Regularly serviced and looked after and kept in the shed.

Is this an actual fact or simply your opinion or internet folklore?

I have just paid for a warranty extension even though I had a gap of 6 months between the end of the previous warranty extension and the new extension. The only stipulation was that although I paid for the warranty on 27/4/24 it did not start until 27/5/24. No mention either verbally with the agent or in the documentation.

Fact

When i got shot of the LC and went back to a TC, i was contemplating taking out the extended warranty

Upon speaking to Motoraad, they said the bike would need a current service ( mileage / age) whichever was relevant

My gap was 9 years, so way outside what could be considered reasonable

Once that was done, then they could start the warranty but it would be with the £50 excess , as the warranty extension had lapsed

Reading the T&C's this makes sense, as it states they will not cover existing faults

So if you had the inspection service and they identified X or y needed replacing / fixing you would have to pay for those parts yourself

Then with a current MD service stamp in the book, they would issue the warranty, as then its been dealer serviced.

On the TC the only bits i would be concerned about were the two suspension units

Given that that could have been a £2400 bill to replace before i potentially took out the warranty i declined

Hi Alan
Ive done the same with my 27000 mile R1200RS which I’m taking abroad soon. I’ve heard that BM’s breakdown cover is the best, and the fact that it covers the stator issues too under warranty (if not the shocks I believe…after 30k?) is also reassuring 🤞

Your lucky

My 2016 with 40K

I had

Fuel filler pot
LH switch cluster
Throttle assy
Throttle wiring
Rear shock (my cost + contribution)
Camshaft sensor
ZFE
Fuel pressure regulator
RH throttle body

excluding labour i think the parts excluding the shock were north of 2K
