Hello Everyone

Can anyone help, please? My two week old GS has just been for its 600 mile service. As part of this it has the FI balanced and the fast idle speed (choke) increased slightly, as well as having a Meta alarm fitted.

All is well until I rev it beyond 4,000 (i.e. the bit I’ve been waiting for!). It has a “stuttering” feel to it and will not rev out properly. The stuttering is more noticeable in the higher gears, but it there in every gear, I think. It is very different from the bike I test rode (which had very similar mileage), so I’m thinking it is more than just the new engine being ‘tight.’ I have done another 200 miles since the service – no change.

The dealers are more than happy to have it back and check it over as soon as I can get it there, but this involves a 200-mile round trip and I’m already running out of weekends. Anyone got any hints as to a quick fix or something obvious that might be causing it, please, before I use another Saturday. All cables seem to be seated/fitted correctly, everything appears to be in order, the only adjustment possibilities I can see are the two brass screws on the throttle bodies, and I don’t want to interfere with these without further advice for fear of doing more harm than good.

Thanks in advance,

Robin

Robin.

As it's only got 600mls on it let the dealer sort it. Did it stutter before the service, if not, it sure sounds like a botched job

Chances are it's just an imbalance in the injector bodies - maybe caused by a rushed mechanic. It could be many other things, so let the dealer have a look just to be sure

If the injectors are out [and even if they're not] buy a Twin Max and balance them yourself. Many owners report that they are capable of doing the job better than a dealer. IMO, it's not a job that can be rushed.

my gs was missing and surging at 3-6000 revs would not pull clean.Took the bike for its 600 service on thursday got a call from dealer said they cannot trace fault(thursday)got a call late yesterday said bike ok now sales guy said mechanic changed plugs and looked at all the causes.Im picking it up today hopefully its ok Ill try speaking to mechanic to find out the problem.Must admit bit peed off bike 3 weeks old and poorly straight away.

It might have dropped a plug. Mine is (or was before I started faffing about)very sensitive to knocking off a plug. It had similar symptoms to what you describe. First time it happened it was due for a service so I changed the plugs and it was OK. Second time it happened, again for no apparent reason, but no where near needing a service. Changed plug, back to normal.

Had a chat with a good BMW mechanic and he said it wasnt unusual. Not all bikes do it, just some seemed to have a tendency to foul a plug. He didnt know if it was riding style or what. I now keep a spare plug in the top box as a just in case. Since I started doing that, guess what...never happened again.

:D
