Here's an interesting comparison of a Hilltop Dyno report and a BMW plot for the motor.

It's a shame that the graph doesn't look anything like BMW say it should, on the before graphs of any GS that's been to Hilltop. Could they be done for false advertising?:augie

I think the before and after HP is easy enough to check. Just take your bike for a spin.

If the before HP is 87, you'd get a top speed of between 115-120 mph. And if the after HP is 122 you should see a top speed at 130 mph or so.

Blimey , I sure that's my Dyno run ...... 335 ...... and it did do well over the 130 mark

Tis m dyno run (I posted it earlier) and the HP at the wheel was checked sometime afterwards at another dyno facility and was found to be almost identical. The before figure was 97hp btw! The graph in French is off the t'interweb and I believe is at the crank figures.

I had a hard time reading it. That being the case, a before speed of around 120-ish.

Hi John. Is there any space left on April 22nd? Riding over from Cleethorpes so if you can give me a time near anybody else who is popping over there from this neck of the woods we can possibly hook up en route. Sid

I'll gather folks details shortly and post a schedule so people aren't hanging around longer than they need to. If anyone is coming from your area I'll let you know.

Apologies it similar to mime and I thought could see the first part of my reg 335 - - -

Yeah, I just borrowed it, wasn't sure from whom. It would be great if a couple people going in the next group to do before and after top speed.

Forgive me for pointing out the obvious but the top speeds will be the same because rpm limits and gear ratio ,the only way you would get a higher top speed is if you changed the gear ratio or rpm limits what you should be asking is how fast it gets to the top speed ? and also depends on rider kg wind and other conditions just pointing this out

The BMW spec on the R1200GSW is for a top speed in excess of 125 mph, I'm not sure which gear that's in or at what RPM but with the gearing ratios it can be figured out. If the before power is 97 HP or lower as many have reported, that says the bike would struggle to reach even 120 mph.

The other test that can be done, and I've used a GS-911 to do it, is to measure rate of acceleration--before and after. With more torque and HP, the rates will increase.

As Geoff pointed out a couple posts back these tests should be done at the same air temperature (or compensated as the dyno does), on the same road, into the same wind conditions. Wind is a significant factor in top speed testing.

My van got no power but give the bugger long enough it goes well .......just takes longer to get to speed , now my Lancia got there like shit off a shovel

If it helps on the dyno at Hilltop my speedo showed a sustained 150mph but did touch 154mph for a moment before bouncing off the red line.

Out and about 130+ is possible…

The inertial dyno load is about half the load on the street. You really want a before and after top speed on the highway.

If it helps, I maxed my last Hilltopped GSA out at 138mph on several occasions when I took it abroad last year. I'd not done the same pre Hilltop, but I'm sure that a few here have, and could comment?

I saw 138 satnav mph pre hilltop. I have not tried since, I don't think the bike will hive a higher top speed after hilltop but will certainly get there more quickly.
Approaching 140mph on a GS is not a particularly pleasant place to be, it is hard work and not what is made for.
40 to 90 mph is where the fun is and after a visit to Geoff it is even more fun.

I can just imagine the conversation with one of Her Majesty's finest traffic officers could go something like:

"well it's like this officer, there's a Wizard in Earl Shilton who does magical things, but one of the naughty Elves called Roger doesn't believe in the magic so he told me to make my bike go as fast as it could so I could prove to him that the magic works. That's why I was doing 138mph on the A5, so please let me off!"

"........come this way please Sir and sit in my patrol car and you won't be needing that pink piece of plastic anymore!"

:blast:D

Is yours a GS or GSA? And, yes, you're probably right about the top speed not being any different.:thumb

Driving at 138 mph, you've already been a naughty Elf. :wasntme

Since you got to 138 mph, your bike was producing something in the neighborhood of 125 HP.
